Chapter 9

I was in the bathroom getting ready, when I heard the doorbell ring. I walked downstairs and answered the door and saw that it was our son, Jay.

I said, "Jay! Come in!"

He came in, gave me a hug and said, "Hi mom! Happy Mother's Day!"

He handed me a bouquet of flowers.

I said, "Thank you Jay! They are beautiful!"

He asked, "Mom, can we talk?"

I said, "Of course!"

We went into the dining room and sat at the table.

Once we were sitting at the table I asked, "So, what's up?"

Jay said, "So, the girl I have been dating. I want to do more than date her."

I was very confused at where this was going.

He continued saying, "I think I want to marry her."

I said, "Let me get your dad down here and we will all talk about it."

I walked upstairs and into the bedroom.

I asked, "Honey, where are you at?"

He walked out of the bathroom and said, "Hey! Happy Mother's Day!"

I said, "Thank you", and then we kissed.

I said, "Jay is downstairs and he needs to talk to us."

We walked downstairs. I was in front while Philip followed me.

Once we got in the dinning room Jay said, "Hi dad. How are you?"

Philip said, "I am good."

We all sat down at the table and Philip put his arm around me.

Jay said, "I think I want to marry my girlfriend, Erica."

Philip said, "Wow. Ok."

Jay said, "I do have one problem though."

I asked, "What is it?"

He said, "Well, I'm not 100% sure that I want to marry her."

Philip asked, "Do you want me to take it from a psychologist's stand point?"

Jay nodded his head yes.

Philip said, "Now, I am going to ask you some questions. Just answer them the best you can, but keep the answers to yourself."

Jay nodded his head.

Philip said, "Could you imagine your life without her? Is there something special about her that you wouldn't be able to find in other women? Could you see the two of you becoming intimate with each other?"

Jay took all of that in.

Philip said, "Now, if you answered yes to at least two of those questions I would definitely say this is the one."

Jay said, "Thanks for the help dad. I am going to do it."

Philip asked, "What are you going to do?"

Jay said, "I am going to ask her to marry me!"

That made my heart happy.

I said, "Jay, if you need any help with anything don't hesitate to ask us. We are here for you."

Jay gave me a hug and said, "Thanks mom! I love you!"

I said, "I love you too!"

After that, Jay left. I said, "Just like that we have a son that is going to propose."

Philip said, "Well, kids grow up. He is an adult now, but don't worry you have another baby on the way."

I looked up at Philip and smiled.
