Chapter 12: 'It Wasn't Me.'

I felt my eye twitch from impatience. "Look kids, I'm a busy person, obviously an adult with no time for games like this." I took a deep breath to calm myself. "With all due respect, will you please direct me back to whatever counter dimension I just been into?"

It finally hit her that Valeria is nowhere to be found. "And where in the demon's name is she?"

"I'm afraid we have to take her away from you, miss." The boy turned his back on me.

"You brat, don't turn your back on a lady when she's not done talking to you." I snapped, marching towards him. "Hey! Are you listening?" I reached out to grab his shoulder.

But like the alley's darkness, he faltered like a deactivating hologram.

Everything.

Everything around me could be an illusion.

"Actually, you're the one whose back is turned, not me."

My hands furled into fists.

"I see..."

"We'll be departing now."

"So soon?"

"Unfortunately."

Turning around, I unbuckled my mask from my face and smirked at the empty space.

"Why not stay for a bit?"

I heard his haughty huff. But it only made the gap on my face wider.

"Why would... we...?"

I lost it when his voice faltered. His illusion evaporated and he appeared before me.

Laughs dying down into gleeful sighs, I watched as his eyes spark a bloodshot glint before deadening to gray. A sign that his mind is now fully possessed by me.

"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM?"

The girl's voice hollered behind me.

"Be silent or you'll cough blood,"

"What..."

I didn't spare her a glance and just listened to her cough and hack out blood.

This is somehow very entertaining although a bit annoying.

But as much as I like to toy with these brats more, I still have to accomplish my main objective.

"Could you roll down the illusions for me?" Even my voice doesn't sound as my own. The conniving monotone strained my ears making it hard for me to stay focused.

Sprinkles of light showered once more...

Valeria was just beside me. She slowly stirred and I pulled her up.

Then more figures came out in a blur.

Then there were... gunshots.

I ducked just in time but the boy in front of me got pelted with bullets. His eyes turned back to hazel but before he could even make sense what's being done to him, his body hit the ground and he leaked blood.
