"And you brought me desert!" The giants breath stank horribly. I screw my nose up in disgust.
"Elena. Get out of here." Ender squeezes my hand again. I stand with him, but as his grip loosens, I don't let go.
I shake my head, while keeping my eyes on the giant. "No. I'm not leaving without you."
"Elena, please. I'll catch up with you. I promise." This time, Ender rips his hand from mine. "Go!" He points to the giant's shoulder, where a vine from the tree was hanging down. I take off running, dodging the attempts of the giant to swat me off. I take a leap of faith and jump onto the vine, sliding all the way down to the ground.
The giants laugh echoes. "Wonderful entertainment before a meal." The giant holds out a fist, and opens it. Something black drops out of his hand and in front of me.
I watch in horror as the thing unfolds. A giant scorpion.
