Paying Respects to the Fallen

"Sorry..."

Elder Shu smiles warmly upon seeing Ye Gui Feng returning. He was not angry with Ye Gui Feng returning with a dejected look. In fact he seems rather happy.

"There is no need to be sorry child. It is naturally to feel nauseous when operating on a corpse."

Elder Shu comforts the dejected Ye Gui Feng.

Despite having studied for so many months and has gotten the hang of using the magic techniques needed to operate on a corpse Ye Gui Feng can't help but feel down about this result.

Although Ye Gui Feng knew that he himself is nowhere near fully ready to take on such a project but he never the less wanted to try getting past that first major hurdle in this craft.

"I was the same as you when I started. Everyone here in the Awakened Corpses Faction are the same."

"Really?"

"Not one of them didn't vomit when I gave them a demonstration just as my master had done for me."

There was a sense of comfort in these words as it made Ye Gui Feng feel a sense of closeness to those in this faction.

"You should talk to your seniors a bit more and watch how they operate on their corpses."

"I understand."

"You think operating on corpses is an immoral act correct?"

Towards this Ye Gui Feng nods. Elder Shu smiles with bright eyes.

"It can be seen as an immoral act yes. But after I got used to it I started to think differently. It is no longer immoral in my eyes. I see it as paying respects to the fallen warriors."

"Paying respects to the fallen warriors?"

"Those that die in battle with regrets, unable to kill their enemies. It is very much like that. A prideful warrior would wish to die in battle but even after they've fallen I think that they would want another chance. As a Jiangshi maker I grant them that second life that they so yearn for, another chance to roam the battlefields and fight once more. That is why I make Jiangshi!"

Although others might not share the same view as Elder Shu this didn't matter because this is Elder Shu's Dao of Necromancy.

"..."

Ye Gui Feng stares wide eyed at Elder Shu. He had not thought of making Jiangshi in this kind of manner. Paying respects to the fallen warriors that died with regret in not being able to kill their enemies.

"Hahaha you're still young. You've plenty of time to get used to operating on a corpse."

Ye Gui Feng clasps his hands and gave Elder Shu a respectful bow. It was then that he thought of something.

"Elder where is Burial Grounds Sect even located? I was swept up by a tornado and ended up here at the sect gates last I recall."

"This..."

Elder Shu has never heard of someone being swept up by a tornado to end up in another place entirely but seeing as how Ye Gui Feng is the disciple of Xie Mo Xin he thought that perhaps this was Xie Mo Xin's way of training his disciple.

"We are located in the eastern domains of Xīng Yuè Wáng Guó (星月王国 Translation: Moon and Stars Kingdom)."

"A-Ah...?"

Ye Gui Feng nearly stumbles as he stands there dumbfound. Moon and Stars Kingdom is at least 103,000 miles away from the Seven Rivers Sect.

Ye Gui Feng would never have thought that he would have been swept so far from his former home.

Not to mention that the grounds of the Moon and Stars Kingdom is triple the size of the Country of the Bright Sun's domain. This is an upper class societal kingdom where mostly everyone is in the middle classes.

"Th-This..."

Is unbelievable, but Ye Gui Feng mouth only continues to quiver in the midst of his shock. The resources here are far greater than the Seven Rivers Sect as well. Comparing a kingdom to a country is just a joke.

"Here in the Moon and Stars Kingdom there are demonic sects and righteous sects just as there are anywhere else in the world. But for the most part we co-exist with each other because we really can't afford to offend each other unless it is because of a major disagreement or provocation."

The reserves of these high class sects all have powerful levels of cultivation bases that are not to be trifled with on impulse.

In other words the power balance in this kingdom is in a complete deadlock. Each major sect has subordinate clans or sects beneath them to make up a powerful force should war ever occur.

Simply having all these forces at hand is already threatening enough alone and the promise of the sects that these clans serve is that a clansman or promising disciple will be allowed into their sect.

"Ah Elder Shu mind if I ask why we have so many fresh corpses?"

Ye Gui Feng finds it strange how there are so many fresh corpses lying about to be prepped for operation.

"In the two combat orientated factions fights break out all the time. During a specific hour of the day it becomes a bloodbath between the two factions."

A process of natural selection. The strongest cultivator dominates all and stands above the fallen. This is common in demonic sects; the rules are completely different from those of the Seven Rivers Sect where killing between disciples is forbidden and if it occurs punishment will surely be given.

"I-I see..."

Ye Gui Feng is quite glad that he had entered into one of the crafting factions instead. If he went into the combat factions then he would have been dead.

Asking a few more questions Ye Gui Feng walks away from Elder Shu's cave.

"Elder Shu told me to talk to my seniors and watch them work..."

Ye Gui Feng needed to get used to the sight of corpses and the gore that comes with operating them as soon as possible.

"Paying respects to the fallen..."

Gritting his teeth Ye Gui Feng decides to do just that. Looking around Ye Gui Feng sees a senior disciple of the faction walking about.

"Senior Brother please give me some pointers!"

Ye Gui Feng readily comes up to the senior disciple dressed in the same red robes as him and asks them for pointers.

"You're new here are you?"

The disciple in red readily smiles upon being asked for pointers and introduces himself as Hòu Jiā Bǎo (后家宝).

"Yes."

"Come, come. I'll introduce you to some other brothers that you can ask pointers from. Every new member must be given an introduction to the others in our faction."

Ye Gui Feng follows along and soon he finds himself welcomed into the community of 29 other disciples.
