Lantern

From far,
A shiny saffron glow,
Lighting up,
Not too far not too slow.

The melting, disintegrating, half-light
Wasp-ing humans to gather around,
And staring at the shivering shadow on the opposite onlooking wall,
By the lantern's light which is bound,
Barren with sound,
Except the crispy caged flame.

The fire that ignites telling of tales
And stories that provide thrills,
Stories that plant a smile, waters feelings,
Grant goosebumps and chills.

Times of smiles and frown are shared,
In the light only at an arm's distance,
But still believed upon, since the humans and our needs' existence.

Lanterns rare, lit lanterns rarer,
Extinguished lanterns our bodies contain,
And regrets alone are not enough
To light the lantern again.
