Gill pulled her head out of the console and looked up at Shen, "Engineer lady, you better go replace the port power drive or we might all go..." She spread out her hands in a dramatic fashion, "BOOM!"
That seemed to kick Shen into action. She sprinted across the room to her spare parts repository. Throwing useless parts aside, she found the power drive capacitor beneath a pile of positronic converters and sprinted to an opposite console. She ripped the lower console panel off, and pulling the spanning tool from her tool belt, quickly replaced the capacitor.
"SHEN! SHEN! SHEN!"
"Engineer lady is working!"
"GET ME SHEN!"
Shen looked over at the core. The power had returned but the engine core still sparked violently across its surface.
"Need to reboot the system engineer lady!"
"SHEN! WHAT IS HAPPENING DOWN THERE!"
"Shhh....engineer lady is working."
"GET ME SHEN! NOW!"
"Bossman, shhh.... Too much panic! Kitty isn't panicked, are you Kitty?"
The engineer stood frozen, his face slowly draining of color as he watched the altimeter begin to drop faster and faster.
"See bossman? Kitty isn't frightened at all!"
Shen ran to another console and tried to pull the top of. It didn't budge. She tried again but it still didn't budge. She noticed SPARK standing two steps away.
"SPARK!"
Spark ripped the entire console from the wall, tossing it across the engine room. The poor engineer had barely enough time to duck before the console hit the floor and disintegrated in a shower of sparks and metal.
Shen ignored the drama as she leaned over into the remains of the console's innards. She quickly found what she was looking for, cut a pair of wires, and briefly contacted them together. The engine once again dimmed momentarily and Gill looked back over at the engineer who was now staring at the core. The sparks declined into a solid smooth ball of slightly pulsing energy.
"KITTY! Hit the blue button! The BLUE button! BLUE... Do you know which one that is Kitty? It's not the RED one, not the GREEN one, but BLUE!"
The engineer tore his eyes from the ball of energy and scanned the huge control panel.
"THE BLUE BUTTON KITTY!"
The engineer slammed the only blue button he could find and hoped it was correct. He wanted nothing more than to escape this nightmare. Living would be nice. Escaping would be even nicer. Escaping while still living would be the prize of all prizes.
Shen listened to Corbin over the comms. "Sir! We've regained control of system!"
"ALL POWER TO VERTICAL THRUSTERS!"
The ship slowed its descent but continued to descend to the ground as the thrusters worked to reverse the downward momentum, doing its best to avoid a fiery grave.
Gill looked up at the engineer and jumped up and down clapping her hands. "Kitty knows tricks! You're such a GOOD kitty! You are such a SMART kitty!"
The engineer saw his opportunity to escape. And ran.
Gill looked shocked as her pet disappeared out of engineering. "Kitty? KITTY! COME BACK!" There was a moments silence. "KITTY?" Gill grabbed the water bottle. "BAD KITTY! BAD, BAD KITTY!" Gill stalked out of the room with a singular purpose.
