Once upon a time
I caught a glimpse of the me I wanted to be

I set it in the palm if my hand
But it slipped through my fingers

I chased it for miles and miles till my chest burned
But it was too fast for me, always just out of reach

I scooped it up and threw it far away, erasing the idea of it
But it came back and danced in my mind

I caught it in a cage and locked it up
But it dispersed into nothingness and escaped

I followed it for years restlessly
But it would pay no attention to me

When I fed it love and kindness
It became my dearest friend

Then it held my hand and walked with me
And I became that me
