"ONE name, ONE game and most importantly ONE chance at life."
Olivia James seems to be making her way around her life just fine- apart from the occasional bullying and the burden of her past, nothing seems to be going off track until one day, her mo...
The graveyard looked empty just as always but maybe it wasn't that empty really. Hundreds of graves were present here with me with bodies of many buried beneath the ground.
It was heart breaking how these people had been abandoned once they were dead. But I have never stopped visiting him in the past three years.
My eyes started watering and I hastily rubbed them away. I hated this. I killed him, yet I felt so remorseful and if I could die instead of him, I'd readily choose that option. This was still a fresh wound.
I didn't even know if he had a family. He was all alone. I didn't even know his name, just that he had been found by the police once I had called them anonymously. I had fled the scene.
I never tried searching for his family because I knew the guilt would eat me alive. But there is still is nagging voice in my head which tells me to search out for them.
I still remember that day, second of August at around midnight, I was driving home. It was rather hot and so I had opened up the windows. The sky looked so mesmerising and deep that I could drown in it a thousand times. Instead I drowned someone else's future.
I extinguished the fire which had not even burnt yet. I took the life of a young soul. A soul which could've lived enough if only, if only...
He had ran so suddenly in front of my car that even the brakes were not able to stop it. Maybe it was fate, May be this is what was meant to be but maybe it could've been prevented.
I panicked and dashed outside, only to see a lifeless body lay in front of me. What was living was now dead, gone, forever, because of me.
In panic i screamed, doing anything to save him. Alas, it was not meant to be. I looked up at the sky in vain, finding it no more mesmerizing, my heaven turned into hell.
I had never believed fate. I was always trying to show it that these were all my actions and decisions which would ultimately lead to different repercussions. But here I was, helpless at the mercy of fate.
Fate was laughing at me. Telling me that how would I escape this. It wouldn't have been happened if it weren't for fate.
I called the ambulance and ran to the bushes, hiding myself until the police arrived as well. With a final glance, I left the scene. That moment has never left my mind.
Call me a selfish monster or something but at that moment, it was as if my inner demons were whispering to me. Telling me that if I surrendered, my whole life would be tarnished. All my hard work would go to waste, my dad's money with which he provided for me would go to waste. I would be confined for the rest of my life just as I was about to soar to the sky.
My life would be in ruins. The university of my dreams would be out of reach. Though alive, I would never live.
I couldn't do it and sometimes I had the strongest urge to confess but I couldn't and now it seemed as if I was dying everyday.
"Olivia? Are you okay?"
I snapped away from my thoughts. I looked at Tom. He worried a lot about me. I shook my head as I managed to plaster a smile on my face.
He sighed, "Look, if you ever need help or need someone to talk to, please come to me."
Warmth surged through me. I nodded, "Thank you...for everything."
A cheeky grin took up his face. "No problem."
We got back to our own work. I glanced at a customer who had been watching our exchange with an interest. She was an elderly lady, yet one of our regular customers.
I loved her as my own. She raised both eyebrows and smiled at me, color rose to my cheeks and I shook my head. "So...what's going on between you two?"
I shook my head again. "Nothing is going on. So do you want the same order?"
She nodded.
I took a tray with an assortment of many foods as I walked over to a table. A man sat there with a hoodie on. I couldn't see his face. It looked as if he was watching each move of mine.
I gulped.
He piqued my interest yet, I felt somehow scared of him. At the same time a new customer entered, the door opened and a breeze flew in.
I shivered.
I felt goosebumps. Just as I set the tray down, I saw a glimpse of his eyes; the same piercing eyes I had seen before.
I froze.
No, no, n-no, NO!
This couldn't be happening.
My vision started blurring. He handed me something.
I took it without even looking and fled to the kitchen.
Tom looked at me; alarmed. I couldn't stop shaking with fear. Tom looked afraid and so was I. I was afraid for my life. The life I was living on the basis of someone esles life.
I knew that the police would catch me sooner or later, I just wanted to breathe properly before they would do this.
Tom went outside to check who that was.
I stood with glassy eyes as I looked at the item clamped in my hand. A crisp texture, confusion swarmed upon me for,
It was a letter.
