Just as Pubentz ducked behind a barricade, a shot whizzed past her ear striking the bodyguard in the chest. The bodyguard faltered slightly before focusing on the cause of its pain. Pubentz yelled back, "What the SNOT are you doing?!?"
"I didn't have a shot, I needed to hit something!"
Ranger Van Dyke quickly stepped UP pulling out his axe. If only Svangerko could see him now. With all his strength, he chunked the ionic axe as hard as he possibly could where it embedded itself into the King's chest. The King turned and focused on the Ranger, pure hatred seething from its eyes. Ranger Van Dyke was ok with that, he simply pulled out his rifle and fired another round at the thing inflicting even more damage.
Zalewski took stock of the situation and quickly looked around for Gunner Van Dyke, who had retreated to behind some storage containers. "YO! GUNNER! We need that frost grenade of yours. PRONTO! Send it 30 degrees from your position at a vertical angle of 60 degrees! Give it about fifty percent power!"
Gunner had generally done her firing instinctively. She'd never had a spotter before. "What?!?"
"I said, shoot the grenade at an angle of 30 degrees from your position with a vertical of about 60 degrees...at 50% power!"
Van Dyke looked around. 30 degrees from what?!?
"What are you..."
Pritchett yelled out, "SHOOT RIGHT OVER THE BLASTED CRATES!"
Gunner shrugged. This was something she understood. She loaded her grenade and fired blind right over the crates. The grenade exploded in liquid ice that immediately froze everything around. Most importantly, it froze the Snake-King.
Pubentz didn't waste the time, she quickly lined up a shot and plugged an electric arc straight into the frozen King. The ice conducted the electricity quite nicely and the snake-king got a nice therapeutic electric massage. Zalewski finally stopped plugging calculations into his computer long enough to realize there was a frozen snake monstrosity nearly right on top of him. He scrambled for his assault rifle and fired wildly trying to do some damage and was very unsuccessful. Bastion screeched in what was almost a mournful sound.
Ranger Van Dyke watched as the ice thawed off the thing, bringing it back to its demonic visage once again.
"Enough of this!" He pulled out his other ionic axe and charged the thing at full speed, the axe humming in a powerful throb. The Snake-King poised in anticipation, but was not expecting the complete and utter shock of the ionic axe hitting its system. The swipe nearly decapitated the King and it slumped to the ground in a bloody mess.
The Ranger hollered in triumph raising his axe in the air. "Didn't see THAT coming did you! HA! YOU?!? KING? You're the headless snake-man now buddy-boy! Take THAT!" What he failed to realize was the bodyguard was still right behind him. "Want some more KING? I bet I could....UMMmmmph..."
His tirade was cut short as the coils of the bodyguard quickly relieved the Ranger of breath in a momentous squeeze.
But there was an entire team ready and waiting this time. Zalewski the most. He realized he had some makeup to do here and quickly fired bringing the already damaged bodyguard to the ground, the Ranger along with it. As the Ranger finally made his feet from the mounds of coils, he kicked the bodyguard once before heading over to the King. Whipping out his axe, he cut off a small chunk of the thing's monstrously long tongue.
Pubentz looked over at him, eyebrow raised.
The Ranger looked back, "A trophy."
By this time the squad had surrounded the Snake-King.
