The Captain looked around confused before sighing, "Dismissed."
OPERATION BLOOD KING
Van Dyke – Squaddie Ranger
Pubentz – Squaddie Support
Pritchett – Squaddie Sniper
Watt – Squaddie Heavy
The squad hadn't even touched the ground before the Skyranger began its ascent. The squad? Expendable. Skyranger? Not so much. So if the squad took damage getting off the ranger, no big deal. That was no comfort to the squad as they picked themselves off the ground and scrambled for cover.
The scene in front of them wasn't the prettiest. Wisps of smoke drifted skyward from various parts of the shanty-town that was the rebel encampment. Scattered gun-fire and piercing screams could be heard within the vicinity.
Pritchett looked around, "Another day in the park. Shall we?"
Van Dyke grunted, "Says the sniper who doesn't have to move."
The squad moved forward with Pubentz carefully directing some panicked rebels to the safe location, then paused again as yet another set of screams was heard in the distance. Just inside the first building, they caught site of the first intruders, a grunt and a Sectoid. Watt, fully intent on mowing down the infringing aliens, unleashed a hail of gunfire form his massive new weapon in grand Rambo style. He was very efficient in destroying the wall.
The aliens were not amused.
Pritchett, in her nicely covered position, saw just a glimpse the Sectoid across the way. Fortunately, she was a sniper, and her gun allowed her to see the ugliness up close. That was more than enough. The shot put the thing on the floor, but it wasn't enough to take it out. Van Dyke sitting next to Pritchett noticed the thing starting to get up again and unloaded on it as well, but the thing was tougher than it looked and managed to scurry away back into cover. With the Sectoid out of view, Pubentz dove into a new position behind a destroyed car and happily pulled out her new weapon. She aimed carefully feeling the weapon charge as she aimed. With the pull of the trigger, an electric arc ripped across the field straight into the unlucky grunt who happened to be the recipient of Pubentz's ire.
Pubentz smiled to herself in satisfaction, "I could get used to this..."
The team moved up carefully, despite the screaming of civilians in the distance. The comms cackled again, "Would you save those civilians? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?" Van Dyke looked over at Watt sitting next to him, "Is there a mute button on this thing." Watt looked back and grinned taking the ear piece off and shoving it in his pocket. "I think this will work for me."
As they were chatting, Watt spotted the wounded Sectoid through a window on the other side of the house they were using as cover. "Excuse me.." Watt quietly slid into position before unloading (once again) through the house. The barrage of fire punched through one window, through the house, through the other window (and wall) to turn the already injured Sectoid into spaghetti. "There, that ought to do it." He felt a little better now.
As they sat there, another Sectoid / grunt pair entered the house ready for battle. Seeing the scene in front of them, they immediately jumped into cover inside the house. Well, you really couldn't call it much of a house at this point. Two walls had already been blown through. You could see straight through, and Watt wasn't done yet. He wanted to try out all his new toys, so he pulled out his grenade launcher and launched an explosive grenade right into the middle of the covering aliens. It managed to take out the cover of not one, but BOTH aliens as well as the side wall.
He didn't kill anyone, but sure made a hell of a mess. It also opened up the ability to shoot for the rest of the team. Van Dyke unloaded on the Sectoid, sending it to the ground to be followed up Pritchett who doesn't deem it worthy of a sniper shot (and was actually a little close). She simply pulled out her pistol and shot it sending it to the ground in a squishy thud. Pubentz had a wide open shot with her new toy which she quickly reloaded and fired again at the wide open grunt, sending it sprawling next to its Silicoid friend.
