Chapter Sixty Three

Dinner was a raucous affair, the five of them sat around the large dining table eating the delicious homemade pizzas, every few seconds someone complimented the chefs, and Nina blushed yet Melody accepted as though she was a female Gordon Ramsey. Wine was shared between the three that could imbibe it; Nina and Melody were left with orange juice.

"So young lady...it's time for bed." Theo stood once they'd all finished ice cream.

She shook her head stubbornly, "want Uncle Dan to take me."

Daniel leaned across the table, "sorry chick, I'm taking Lilah here to the cinema later."

The other three adults turned to look at him, this was news to everyone. He merely laughed and mouthed, "think you need some alone time."

Nina's heart raced at the thought of what that would entail, as Lilah winked in her direction.

"Whatever else happens tonight, it's your bed time, say goodnight."

Reluctantly Melody hugged everyone present, then took her father's hand as he led her upstairs, and silence descended on the room before Lilah reached for Nina's hand.

"Do you want me to go out? I am more than happy to NOT go anywhere with this bossy bastard. It's you I'm here for."

Nina looked between the two, the tension with them almost as palpable as her and Theo.

"We DO need to talk, me and Theo, but we can do that anytime."

Daniel stood up and cleared the plates before contributing, "you have had a rough few days, even if you're not talking about serious stuff, you both need a little time to yourselves. OK?"

She couldn't argue with that, and Lilah nodded to him, "ok, I'll go with you...but ONLY because my friend needs me to. No other reason."

Daniel turned from his place at the sink and laughed, "I think she doth protest too much."

Rolling her eyes she led Nina into the lounge, "you've gone pale, despite the bruises. You feeling ok?"

She nodded, but was glad to lower herself to the sofa away in a quiet room away from the brothers. "Maybe a bit scared."

Lilah smiled, "you don't have to do anything...no rush, no decisions, just get yourself well. Recover. You hear that?"

Nina sighed, "if only it was that easy." She took a deep breath, "I love him Lilah. But then you knew that all along, didn't you?"

Lilah nodded, "but there's a big difference between admitting that and taking the next step Nina, it's not something you'll find easy, you don't do relationships, so don't put pressure on yourself, that's all I ask. Not when you've got so much else going on."

Nina sighed, "a bit late for that now, hey?" She ran a hand over her distended abdomen and sighed, "I'm tied to him forever anyway."

Lilah reached over and grabbed her hand, "that's true, but it can be separate. You can have one without the other." Nina made to protest but Lilah merely smiled, "I'm not judging, dictating or anything...I just want you to do what you truly feel happy with. Whatever it is, I'll support you a thousand percent if that's possible. OK?"
