Tayla woke up in time to hear someone with a heavy Australian accent say, "What the hell, Max! Do you know what time it is?"

"Sorry, Kimber. I didn't know where else to go. My brothers—"

"Oh please, mate, tell me you've finally left Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber."

"Something like that. Are you going to let us in? I've been carrying her for several blocks already and my arms are turning to jelly. Not to mention getting frost bite!"

Tayla still curled against Max's chest, her eyes drooping. She turned her head, shivering against him. The women she assumed was Kimber leaned in the threshold. Her tie-dyed poncho flapped in the wind as she stepped aside to let Max maneuver himself indoors.

"What did your brothers do to her?"

Max carefully set Tayla on a mattress sitting on the floor. She gritted her teeth as her sweater rubbed against her stomach. The skin was raw, searing with heat. Kimber leaned over her, multi colored braids held together with metal beads knocked against each other, creating a jingling of noise that was almost musical. One hand lifted Tayla's shirt and sweater.

"Christ. Those dicks!"

"Do you think Remy can heal her?" Max asked.

Kimber swished her lips and pressed on Tayla's belly button. She grimaced under the pain as Kimber moved her hand and pressed again. Every push was like a thousand claws scratching at Tayla's stomach. Both hands fisted by her side as she resisted the urge to shriek.

"They're still fresh so probably. At the very least, she can lessen the scarring. What's your name, mate?"

"Tayla."

"Well Tayla, I'm Kimber and you're going to have strip for me."

Tayla's eyes widened. "What!"

Kimber chuckled. "You can leave on the bra and underwear, but everything else needs to come off so Remy can get to every inch of the wounds."

Tayla's eyes bounced from Kimber to Max who was busy pulling off his own soaking hoodie. Scars crisscrossed over his entire back, leaving almost no smooth skin. Another set of small circular scars dotted his side like foot prints climbing up his torso. Max twisted his hoodie, draining the water onto the chipped concrete floor. Kimber turned to Max.

"Max, close the damn curtain before you start taking off all your wet clothes in front of the poor girl! And go wake Remy before you change. She's in the loft."

Max frowned before shrugging. He grabbed a rainbow-splattered curtain hanging to the right of the mattress. It squealed against the metal railing it hung from as he pulled it in a circle, cutting the mattress off from the open converted warehouse space.

"You'll have to forgive him, he doesn't have much people skills so he forgets it's not appropriate to strip in front of everyone." Kimber tapped Tayla's arm. "But I really am going to need you to take off your clothes."
