people assumed i was confident. it wasn't much of a surprise, considering the group of friends i hung out with.
there was jackson, the loud and opinionated school joker. then there was bambam, who could get a girl to fall to her knees just by a small smirk. finally there was yugyeom, the dancer of the group. ladies loved him.
i, on the other hand, was the much more quiet and reserved member of the group. i had created an act throughout my years at high school, pretending to be something that i wasn't; pretending to be confident.
i wasn't going to lie. girls did pay attention to me, quite a lot for that matter. the only issue was that i wasn't confident in my own skin. the number one reason for that probably being because i was transgender.
no one at my high school knew of this fact, excluding my best friend, jackson who knew everything about me. the only other people who knew were my parents and my nasty ass step brother, jaebum.
speak of the devil...
"get up for your first day of senior year, baby sis." i heard the annoyingly familiar voice coo as my comforter was yanked off my body. i groaned as the cold air wafting in through the window hit against my bare chest.
"you know, just because you're a bigoted piece of shit it doesn't give you the right to misgender me." i rasped tiredly, sitting up on my bed to shoot jaebum a glare.
"well at least i don't call you baby sis in front of the whole school. wouldn't want anyone knowing that you're really a girl." he smirked.
"i'm a boy, you dick fuck!"
jaebum chuckled at the creative name i had referred to him as. if it wasn't obvious, the two of us didn't have the best relationship. he was a piece of shit, and a transphobic one at that..
adding to my hatred of the boy was my jealousy towards him. i not only envied the special treatment he received from my own mother, but i envied the broadness of jaebum's shoulders. i envied his muscular arms and the sculpted abs he had formed over the past few years.
"whatever, jackass. just get up." he rolled his eyes, before leaving the room in a mood.
deciding to get up to go to that hellish place (otherwise known as school), i walked towards my closet, settling on a pair of jeans and an oversized hoodie to wear.
walking towards the mirror to fix my hair, i couldn't help but cringe over how baggy my clothes looked on me. i wished i wasn't such a lanky shit...
however, my insecurities were momentarily shoved to the side as jackson burst through the door.
"markipooh i'm here!" he called out dramatically, waving his hands in the air. his actions instantly caused me to groan. how could someone be that excited on a monday morning? especially on the first day of senior year.
"are you ready for your first day of senior year, markie?" he cheered.
"uh, sure i guess."
"well, let's get going. the guys are in the car." he announced, leading us both out of the room and down the stairs where i was met by my mother.
"hey mama tuan!" jackson beamed, sending her a wave as my mother smiled at him, before turning her gaze towards me and frowning.
"jennie, what are you doing wearing an outfit like that? why can't you just dress like a normal girl?" she asked me, clearly still not accustomed to the fact that i was a boy and had identified as such for four years. wow, i loved living with a transphobic family...
