I woke up in an unfamiliar room. Then I realized I was in Ryder's room. I looked around to see him at the end of the bed, cuddled up to a pillow. I smiled at him and got off the bed. Once I got up I felt stiff all over my body, I guess that's what I get for sleeping in a 7-year-olds bed. His legs started twitching, indicating that he was about to wake up. I stood there for a second until his eyes opened, he looked at me and smiled, to which I returned. He then started frowning and said, "When are mommy and daddy coming back?"
He asked me this every day to which I always replied, "They're still on vacation, little dude." I hated lying to him, but I couldn't tell him the truth. I couldn't tell him that his parents died in a rogue attack.
He got up and said, "Do they not like me?" I could see tears in his eyes and picked him up. He put his head in the crook of my neck and I could hear him whimpering.
I cooed out, "No. They don't like you, they love you. They just aren't here to see you."
He questioned, "Why?"
I sat him on his bed and kneeled down, saying, "They just can't. Okay?" I gave him a sad smile and he nodded his head. I wiped his tears and helped him put on a different set of clothes. When we were done I said, "Do you wanna eat breakfast at the packhouse or go out?"
He looked up at me and I swear I saw him smirk, "I wanna go out."

We ended up at one of the only cafes in town because Ryder wanted waffles. Along with Ryder, I brought my Beta, Alex, and my third-in-command, Jordan. All four of us sat down in a booth and Jordan took Ryder to play some games.
Alex said, "The border has been expanded. Some man was selling his land, he said he had too much."
I replied, "Good. How about the rogue attacks?"
He shook his head, meaning none, but said, "I want to find my mate, Alpha. She's out there, I just can't seem to find her, but she's close."
He wanted me to let him leave, so I said, "I can't hold you back from that, man. But, I am going to ask you to wait until I turn 21. I want to get a Luna sorted out before you leave."
He replied, "I don't know how you just give up so easily on finding your mate."
I started chuckling, "I don't have a mate, I can't feel her. She's most likely dead. And I don't need a mate, they'll just distract me from the pack."
He looked at me like I had just kicked a puppy and sighed, "Would you reject her if you found her?" I shook my head. Even though I hated the thought of having a mate, I also hated the thought of losing my mate. I'd care for my mate.

Jordan had taken Ryder to train with some of the pups. Alex and I went back to the packhouse. Once there, Alex and I got Lydia, my first choice as Luna, and interviewed her for the position. Her mate had rejected her because she depended on him too much. That was the type of girl I needed, someone who wouldn't interfere with my work. In the middle of the interview I was mind linked by Jared, a guard, 'A rouge and human just passed our border, the rouge is in wolf form, we're taking them to the cells.'
