I wake up to my alarm ringing. 7:00 AM, Thursday morning, kookaburras singing. I peer around my room, perplexed. Then I quickly throw the blanket off myself, open my bedroom door and sprint down the hallway, almost slipping from Amber's stupid scrunchie lying around. I halt at Mum's bedroom. Taking a deep breath in, I open the door.

There, she lays, soundly asleep. The soft noise from the fan in the corner fills the room. A warm yellow glow. The blanket is pulled up to her waist and her eye mask is on. Phew. Relief showers me and I realise all my clothing is completely damp. Cold sweats. I need to shower ASAP.

But Mum's alive and well. I also check on Amber. She's snoring away, her blonde hair is in a mess and her room is in a mess. She's worse than me. I go back to my room and laugh at myself in the mirror. What a fucking dream that was, damn.

"Dean!"

"What the fuck, man!"

"Hey, Sam, cut it off, and homophobia is so 2015."

"Due the first day back from your break. No excuses."

It's the First break. Why's everything feeling like an extreme case of déjà vu?

"Hey, Sylvester! Basketball at lunch in the gym?! Everyone's comin'. Teachers vs Students."

"Uh," I stare at Jace.

"You comin', bro?!"

"Yeah... Yeah!"

"Sweet! See you there!"

5 mins to Bio class. Bio class. Biology class. Fucking Biology class. That's where it happens! That's where it all begins! No, no, no, no. NO. This is not real. It can't be! Wait, what's the last thing I remember? Fuck, I blacked out! I must still be out. I gotta wake up.

*Pinch.*

*Pinch.*

*Blink hard.*

I can't wake up.

"The hell you doin', weirdo?" Brayson joins me with his granny smith apple. "On that stuff Sam's givin' out?"

What? No.

Let's think this through, I pace back and forth while Brayson eats his apple on top of the picnic table. If everything is happening exactly as it did in my dream then... Then this isn't a dream. It felt too real to just be a 'dream'. This means that I had a premonition. I stop pacing.

"No fucking way," I look up at Brayson.

"Huh?" he says with a mouthful.

"It's Thursday, right?" I ask him.

"Last time I checked, yeah. Why?"

I shake my head, this can't be.

"You okay, man?" Brayson starts looking at me weird. "You seem a little pale."

"It's hot," I mutter.

There's no way I can tell him. He'll think I'm crazy. And since when did anyone believe a crazy person? But then again he's my best friend.

"It's 15 degrees," he says between mouthfuls.

True. The bell rings for 2nd period. Fuck it.

"'Ight, mate, you gonna haveta listen to me very carefully," I put my hands out in front of me.

"Okay..." he tosses away the apple core. "All ears."

"The zombie apocalypse. It's gonna happen in literally 15 minutes."

He stares at me with no expression.

"The zombie apocalypse, bro, deadass," I say again.

More staring.

Then I lose it when I remember more details. "Shit, Sam! Ms Mills! Coach! They're all gonna die! My-my-my-my mum too! The school will be in a full lockdown. At first, we're gonna think it's a drill, but trust, it ain't no drill. It's the zombie apocalypse!"
