"Give me one more quiet night, 'fore this loud morning gets it right, and does me in." -David Cook
"Azel's POV"
The sun had set a lot faster than I has expected. Though it was only half past seven, the sun seemed to have have been swallowed by the lunar rays of the moon.
I wasn't afraid of the dark, mind you. I was afraid, however, of what lingered in it. The longer it took Alistair to get here, the more nervous I became.
Taking a seat at a bench in front of the parking lot, I pulled out my phone and began to play a couple of the games I had on it in an effort to destract myself.
It worked pretty well. So well I didn't hear someone come up and take a seat at the exact bench I was sitting at.
"You don't really sacrifice goats, do you?"
Not expecting anyone to be near me, I jumped and screamed, almost falling off the bench. Looking up at who had broke the silence, I gasped in shock at who came into view.
"Uh...What?" I asked, maintaining a fair distance between us.
"It was something Lloyd, said. Its not true, right?"
I kept waiting for him to charge at me. To tackle me to the ground and start beating me, but it never happened. He just sat there, avoiding eye contact, and waiting for an answer.
"Why have you been following us around, Gary?"
"I...uh, I just want my sister back."
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know, man. She...we used to be really close. She would tell me everything, and I would do the same. But..."
His words trailed off, but his sentence didn't finish. I wasn't sure where he was going with this, but I figured I better keep the conversation going, in an attempt to keep him from beating me.
"But...?"
"She was actually afraid to tell me she was gay. I made her scared to talk to me about it because I was always laughing at you and your friends, calling you fags and what not. Its like our relationship isn't even there anymore. I've been following you to see how you guys act. That way, I know how to talk to, and treat my sister."
I wasn't sure I felt about him telling me this. His personal life, his family issues, any of it. Braving the walk back to the bench, I sat next to him and stared at the ground as well.
"Don't treat her any different."
"But dude, she's a fa-a lezbo."
"No, Gary, she's not. She's your sister. Think of it like this: You loved her before you found she's gay, right?"
"Of course."
"Then why would that all of the sudden change, just because she likes girls? If anything, that's something new you have in common."
He didn't speak for a moment. Checking my phone as it went off, I saw a text from Alistair saying he was about to pull in.
"Look, Gary, I've got to go. Just think about what I sai-"
"This doesn't change anything." He stated, cutting me off. "I still don't like you."
He finished his words and picked himself up off the bench, leaving me alone with his words floating through the air. What a dick! All I was trying to do was help him, and he walks off after saying that?
"Babe? What are you staring at?"
Screaming as another persons voice sneaked up on me, I screamed and started to fall off the brench but felt his arms break my fall.
"WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP SNEAKING UP ON ME?!?" I yelled, pushing myself from his arms.
"I didn't mean to, love. I'm sorry."
After telling him it was okay, we got into his car and set off for the closest fast food place we could find. Alistair kept asking what was going on, so I told him I would explain after we eat.
When we finally found one and pulled in, we decided not to use the drive-threw and went inside to order. Alistair insisted on paying despite my objections and when the food finally arrived, we started to eat.
"Azel, will you please tell me what happened?"
Setting down my soda and bringing my eyes to his, I debated on how to tell him everything, then just decided to let it out.
"I called my Mom out on her bullshit, told her husband not to call me his son, then walked out after telling her she couldn't cook."
"If she can't cook, how did you learn?"
"I watched cooking programs."
He broke out in laughter at my words. Pulling out his phone as it started ringing, he answered but never took his eyes from mine.
"Yeah, he's with me. No. No. Alright, I'll talk to him. Yeah, love you too. Goodbye."
"Let me guess, my Mom called Mrs. Stone to find out where I went."
"Baby, I have to take you home."
"I know." I sighed, dropping my head to the table.
After finishing our food and heading out to his car, we arrived at my place about ten minutes later. Kissing him a number of times and saying I love him, I finally gathered the courage to walk inside.
My Mom and her husband were still sitting at the table like become, but this time it was completely cleaned off.
"Have a seat." My mother said, pointing at one of the empty chairs.
Rolling my eyes, I did what she said and waited for them to say something after about ten minutes went by, I started getting annoyed and got up to go to my room.
"Sit back down, Azel."
"I've got school tomorrow. If I wanted to just sit in silence, I would do it from my room."
"Look, whether you like it or not, he's going to be in your life from now on. The least you can do is give him a chance."
"I'm going to bed." I stated, brushing her arm off my shoulder.
Ignoring her protests, I walked up to my room and locked my door. I knew I wasn't going to get any sleep tonight, not without Alistair next to me, but I climbed in bed none the less.
