Chapter 2

Just as we began to stabilise her health the unpredictable happened. She began to go into cardiac arrest, with little equipment we had we were able to quickly realise she was bleeding internally.

As we all looked on helplessly, green arrow facial expressions portrayed that emotional pain which we all knew too well especially Bruce, I knew arrow would do everything in his power not to let death claim another, especially not his whole world and future which looked dimer as every second passed.

He lay kneeling next to canary holding her hands as she dazed at him unsure if she could even recognise him. As he looked on upon her bloodied face and slightly yellow complexion he knew he only had one way of saving her and that was to return to the surface and find medical equipment and fast. Arrow rose from his dying wife's bedside and began to take control of the situation knowing this was the only way we could save her. As he began to give the orders his eyes began to glance back and forward at his wife and us. The love which connected these two was felt through the air.

As we began to assemble a team which could get to the nearest medical centre undetected. I of course volunteered automatically, I wasn't going to allow a close Allie and friend die at the hands of joker and his 'companions' as they were seen. As both Clark and Bruce glimpsed round at the speed of light at my commitment they quickly with concerned facial expression said
"No its too dangerous, even for you Diana"

Both in sync with each other!, it was like telepathy with those two but they weren't going to stop me.
"They are right you must stay here with my wife she needs you here with her but one of you two must stay here with Diane and the other with me?"
"I'll stay " both Clark and Bruce gasped. As both Bruce and Clark faced each other, a feeling of distrust seemed to flutter through the air creating a darkened atmosphere.
I was about to fight off there stubbornness knowing they were only trying to look out for me and to protect me, Arrow gave me a sharp glance, took a deep breath and said
" my wife needs you Diane "
I immediately became guilty and his words somehow brought flashbacks to my days as an amazon warrior and how many woman died especially at the battle of tartaur for equality of woman and men in the eyes of the gods. Her dying body was a symbol of what we had lost that day and now what we were about to lose.

I agreed almost systematically to arrow but then he said " we need to have someone here with them as a large group would easily be detected without a doubt". " I ll stay " again the question of who would stay resurfaced, both Bruce and Clark declared they would stay confidently both turning to face each other portraying the subtle hint of anger and somewhat pure hatred which infested in them both.

"No Bruce will stay he will be our safety net if anything happens to us you take Diana and my wife far away from here no questions, no buts " he said calmly as if Bruce would not try and fight or at least argue off his wishes but ..... He didn't argue back!!! I looked on in horror no revenge, no comeback, nothing after everything he would run from our enemies.

"Yes I would" he growled, realising I was talking with my mouth rather than my head I quickly took a step back and began to regain my composure at the anger which spread to clearly across my face.

As the team began to disperse Superman watched me intently as I began to look at a small hidden monitor showing the remainder of Gotham and dangers they faced. As a hand grasped my shoulder I immediately swivelled round coming face to face with Clark which in my experience became intense even for me as he placed his other hand on my other shoulder, both hands slid down to my hands, his warm masculine hand covered my hands fully, his heart slowly thumping to an intense Harmoniously beat.. like mine. His sleek black hair fell in a curl like form just above his eyes which stared into mines. His eyes glistened like the Atlantic Ocean under the dim flickering light.
He released a deep sigh before he spoke.
" I've thought about telling you this for a long time but even now my heart shatters at the very thought of leaving you, I don't know what will happen once I leave here and if I do return it will be because of you because I would fight to my last breath to see your face again " he quickly moves in closer to me
"The gods themselves have never felt the world beneath them crumble at the very sight of you as I have, so before I go I show an insignificant token of what I truly have felt for you since we met"
As he moves in closer wrapping his hands round my waist and tugging on my head to come closer I began passionately to move closer to him as the heat of his body radiation touches my skin, I stood slightly bewildered but in some way in control. Clark began to move in closer until he was stopped by a slightly low but masculine voice, it whispered "Clark go" it was Bruce.

Clark walked away slowly through the bunker doors giving me a glance maybe even his last with a small tear rolling down his face. He shares a small but intensive moment with Bruce which from my view intensive was not a word powerful enough to describe the atmosphere at that point before he disappeared into the darkness. He was gone.
I quickly snapped back into reality as Bruce approached me asked " are you ok" he said sympathetically. My reply was reassurance to Bruce although it was slightly delayed as I was recovering from everything I had just heard. I returned to canaries bedside almost praying to Hera herself to save her. Her breathing became even louder as she struggled with every breath, hesitantly wanting to look away and not see her struggle for life but having no other choice.

As she pulled me closer she took a energy draining breath before quietly whispering "Are you alone" I quickly take a look around the room and shake my head.
"Before I die I want to share my last secret with you" she took another deep breath again closing her eyes she said
" I'm pregnant but Ollie must never know" my eyes widened in shock, I had so many questions to ask her in so little time she began to speak in a more hushed tone.
" I didn't want to die knowing I had this secret to myself but I only found out 3 days ago and need to know I can trust you with such a secret" I became speechless at what had been said my lips turned dry, my eyes widened. She made me promise such a secret to be kept in the darkness, away from those she loved if revealed could destroy the man she loved.
I quickly held her hands as her heartbeat became slower and slower then she lifted her head ever so slightly took one last look around the room and whispered "tell him I love him" And she was gone. As I knelt next to her trying to remain calm as this lifeless body lay before me a small, frail hand lay upon my shoulder, it was Alfred.
"she was a wonderful lady Miss Diana." He spoke with such calmness He barely looked as if he had just witnessed a death. I agreed somewhat systematically without uttering a word. I turned round and looked up only for a brief second to see Alfred alone with a opaque expression on his face like the situation was the everyday ordinary protocol.

" Miss Diana would you like to return to the main room as I feel seeing her like this will only evoke further grief? "
I quickly snapped back and rose to my feet.
"No I cannot leave her covered in blood, in this state .... If Oliver saw like this ......I'ca.....I can't " tears began to role down my face. I fell to my knees again Alfred almost trying to catch me, I buried my head in my hands hoping this nightmare would be over but wasn't and would never be in knowing this I stood up wiped the tears from my eyes and crossed the room to the next room being confronted by Bruce who stood staring at my hands which were covered in blood, I brushed past him not giving him a second glance.

He followed me swiftly as I sat on the small bed my head staring at the floor. He sat beside me without a word being said wrapped both arms round me placing my head on his chest. The world I felt was crumbling all around me and I couldn't stop it knowing even Hera could not save me.
