World Confusion

Hi all,

I should have made this MONTHS ago, but I've been getting this more and more recently, so here goes: 

I know the world is confusing and I sincerely apologize. So before you read it, here's a basic run down about how the world works. I would fix this, but it's honestly just easier (right now) for me to make a post about it before the story starts.

Basically, if you live like Emerald at the bottom of the caste system, you're going to live very poorly. It's going to feel more "in the past" because of how poor she is. The luxuries we all know and love come into the world more when you enter the higher ranks of society. So the farther down the line, the more past it feels. The farther up the line, the more "present/future" it feels.
