I sat up in my bed and rubbed my eyes from my sleep. I remembered the day. The most special day of the year. It wasn't Christmas, and no it wasn't my birthday. It was the anniversary of Mike's death. It has been four years today and I always went into his room and payed my respect to him throughout the day. I would tell him how much I've missed him and remind him I successfully finished college which should make him proud, with only one problem I don't want to think of on this special day.
Cody promised to go to the graveyard with me so I felt that Mike's body was in there somewhere and we would sit on a bench. I would talk to him quietly about what life would be like with him.
I appreciate everything Cody's done for me. He never argues with me, he knows I'm right. He doesn't mind when I ask him to take me to a graveyard, it's like he understands.
He does absolutely everything to prevent me from getting upset, he constantly tries to keep me happy.
But on this day I push all of those feelings for Cody aside as I only think of Mike.
"Hey, you ready?"
"Almost!"
I ran out of my bathroom and got out my outfit I prepared the previous day.
It was a grey plain dress, showing my figure at the top but it was floaty from the waist. I wore a black leather jacket over that and some black flats. I wore the pearl necklace, I wear it everyday and take it off when I wash, like my promise, it suited the dress perfectly, I put matching diamond earrings in that Cody bought me for Christmas last year.
I ran out of the room and bumped into Cody.
"Sorry!"
He looked shocked but he just smiled admiringly.
"Wow, you look beautiful!"
I could feel myself blush. "Thank you, let's go!"
I grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the house, whilst grabbing my usual breakfast hurry fruit out of the bowl, a red apple.
"Are they your favourite fruit?" I shook my head as I took a bite into the apple. "What is then?"
I swallowed to clear my mouth, "I don't know?"
He shook his head as he chuckled. "You make me laugh sometimes!" He ducked as he got into the car.
"How so?" I also got into the car.
"Just with the way you are!"
"Is that a bad thing?" I looked across to him in the drivers seat.
"No, it's a perfect thing!"
"Surely not! If you weren't hypnotised by me you would think I'm strange!"
"Who said I'm hypnotised?" He raised his eyebrow questioningly.
"Well, you should think I'm strange then!"
"I really disagree!" He fastened his seatbelt, just as I did mine. Then we were on our way.

"Do you think I would have gone to college?"
"If he was still here?"
"Yeah."
"I think he would have brought it up before me!"
"You really think so?"
"I do!"
I trapped my hands in between my knees as the early winter stages hit me. The sudden blow of wind made me shiver and the view of the graveyard made it feel colder.
"Do you want to head back? It's gotten colder!"
"No, not just yet!" I felt a hoodie cover my shoulders and I noticed it was Cody's. I turned to Cody who was now only wearing a T-shirt. "Now you'll be cold!"
"I'll be fine!"
I took the hoodie off and put it over Cody, I then wrapped my arms around his waist and rested my head on his chest. Cody wrapped his arms around me and the hoodie covered me up.
It was very cosy with this warmth and I could imagine it being Mike. I missed his touch, his voice and his attitude. My little amount of life with him had impacted hugely on my feelings and without him these past few years it feels like nothing else will matter to me like he did!
"Nicole?"
I snapped back to reality. "Yeah!"
"You okay? You seemed to drift off elsewhere just now!"
"I was just thinking!"
"That is never good!"
"No, no it's not bad! I was thinking how much different my life is without Mike!"
"Does it suck?"
"No, it feels empty!"
"You know I try my best to fix that!"
"I know, but I just can't get over his death!" I could feel the sting in my eyes indicating I was going to cry. I don't want to cry though, I don't want Cody to comfort me. Not on this day!
We remained silent for along time, so I could pay my respect to Mike.
"Do you want to head on back now? We've been here for quite a while now and you need to get your stuff ready for work tomorrow!"
"Alright then. It has got even colder!"
I sat up and I left the warmth so I shivered, I want to go right away!
I practically ran towards the car with my arms crossed and hands gripping the other arm as I was now freezing.
I got to the car and turned to Cody who wasn't here yet. "Hurry up!" Cody jogged over to unlock the car and I dived inside to escape the icy wind.
"You sure you want to get back? You can sit in here for a while before we set off!"
"No, you're right, I need to get everything sorted for work tomorrow!" I really didn't want to go but I couldn't make Cody stay here all day, it was bad enough that I talked non stop about Mike all day and making him uncomfortable.
"Alright then, away we go!" He started the engine and we were off back to the cottage. I looked out of the window looking over all the gravestones we passed, and I just wished we gave Mike one. He deserved one, he deserved more than that, he deserved to live!
