Uhura briskly walked into the bar, hurrying past the bouncers. She was late meeting Spock, but she'd hoped he didn't mind. She looked around the bar. It wasn't very busy, but she didn't see Spock. It was unusual because Spock pretty much always on time.

Uhura stood near the back of the bar, biting her nails and tapping her foot. She was getting anxious. But that disappeared when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned to see Chekov, her coworker, and favorite Russian. He had a silly smile on his face.

"Hello, Miss Uhura. How are you?" Chekov asked, standing really close to be heard above the loud noise.

"I'm good. What about you?" Uhura said into Chekov's ear.

"I'm good. Why are you?" Chekov asked.

"I was supposed to go on a date with Spock, but he's not here," Uhura answered.

"Well, you could spend time with me until he gets here. I mean, if you want," said Chekov.

A smile grew on Uhura's face. "Sure. I'd love to."

Uhura and Chekov spent time together until the early morning hours. Uhura didn't realize it until she was sniffling yawns.

"Miss Uhura, maybe you should go back to your room and sleep?" Chekov answered.

"Maybe I will. Can you walk me?" Uhura asked.

"Sure," Chekov said. They both got up. Chekov dropped some money on the counter and followed closely behind Uhura. The bar only had a few patrons left. They exited the building and onto the dark streets. Chekov and Uhura walked close together, huddling against the cold wind. They turned a corner, heaving for the campus.

"Can I ask you a question?" Chekov asked.

"Sure," Uhura answered.

"Can we hang out sometime? I know you're dating Spock, but we could just hang out as friends," said Chekov.

"Yeah, sure. Now let's hurry up. It's cold," said Uhura.

The only sounds were the clicking of Uhura heels and the occasional passing shuttle.

"You know, I've always liked you Uhura," said Chekov.

"Aww thanks, Chekov. I like you too," Uhura said.

"No, like, I've had a crush on you for a while. But you're dating Spock," said Chekov.

Uhura stopped, watching Chekov. He stopped too and met her gaze.

"I didn't know you felt that way, Pavel," said Uhura.

"No one but Sulu knows," said Chekov.

"Well, I don't know what to say. I was going to break up with Spock tonight, but he wasn't here," Uhura said.

"So we could get together?" Chekov asked as they entered the campus.

"Maybe," Uhura said, "we can. I'd love too."
