Thirty-Five | Two Birds, One Stone

A/N - Picture above is Cassie, I couldn't find a Lily Collins picture to suit this chapter

I sprinted down the hospital hallway towards Jeremy and Meredith, "Hey, hey, is she all right?"

"She's gonna be fine." Meredith replied, "She got a little banged up today, hit her head, but it was just a slight concussion, nothing to worry about."

"Are you sure?" I asked, worried.

"But she collapsed, there was blood." Jeremy frowned at her.

"Honestly, she's okay. She's just... she's been through a lot." Meredith said.

I calmed myself, "Meredith, I need to talk to you."

"Yeah, I need you to elborate on the text you sent me earlier." She said.

"Alaric, he didn't die." I told her, "Esther somehow contacted Bonnie and he fed on her blood. He's now a vampire that can't be killed."

"It just gets better and better." She said sarcastically.

"Tell me about it." I grumbled, "Can we get Elena out of here? She's a sitting duck here, she is much safer at home."

"I'll do another check and then I'll make sure you can take her home." Meredith said.

I exhaled a relieved breath, "Thank you."

Tyler and Matt were holding the front door of the Gilbert house open. I had Elena's arm around my shoulder, helping her into her house. I walked her into the living room, "Sofa."

"I'm fine. I just... I want something to eat first." Elena said.

"We're on it, as soon as we make sure no one is lurking in the closets." Tyler told her. He, along with Matt, headed upstairs.

"Come on, on the sofa." I repeated, walking her over to it.

Elena groaned, "Uh, I told you I'm fine."

"Meredith is a doctor, she said to rest and as a former doctor, I'm saying it aswell." I replied.

Elena finally sat down on the sofa. I grabbed a blanket from the chair and placed it over her before sitting beside her.

"Now, what can I get you? Do you want some tea, maybe some vodka? Both will help you sleep." I smiled. Elena stared at me, causing my smile to drop, "I'm being too smothering, aren't I?"

"No, it's... it's nice." Elena said.

"You've been through so much, just get some rest." I told her, I went to stand up but she held my arm, making me stay on the sofa.

"I saw you with Kol the night of the Mikaelson ball, you seemed happy." She said, "And then in Denver. He seems very protective over you. What happened to Elijah?"

"I, uh, it's complicated, Elena." I told her, "There's enough going on in your life without me bothering you with my problems."
