Joey's POV:

I know she'll love where we're going. It's a really romantic restaurant, and I know it'll help her get her mind off what she's going through.

As we get closer to the restaurant, I make her close her eyes so it will be a surprise.

"Whyyyyy?" She whines.

"It's a surprise! Just keep your eyes closed." I tell her.

When we get to the restaurant, I open the car door for her, and take her hand to guide her out of the car. Fortunately there aren't many people her tonight.

The parking lot is a little ways away from the restaurant because it's kind of an isolated place. There's palm trees all around, kind of forming a California type of forest. The restaurant itself has a lot of windows. Since it's nighttime the lights strung along the roof and around the supporting pillars are lit up. There is two floors, and the roof is flat and has tables on it so you can eat up there in good weather. It's a really pretty place.

I lead her to where she can get a full view of the place.

"Okay, open your eyes." I say.

She opens her eyes and gasps. I can sense her grin.

She turns to me. "Joey...you're so sweet."

"Yeah, well I do-" I start.

She cuts my off by pulling me close and kissing me.

When she pulls away I take her hand and lead her inside. The waitress leads us up some stairs and onto the roof of the restaurant. There's only four tables up here, and nobody else is sitting up there. It's a clear night, and the stars are visible. The soft glow from the lights strung around our table and chairs illuminates Bethany's face and makes her eyes sparkle.

When we sit down I'm quick to grab her hand across the table.

"How are you feeling?" I ask. I'm still a little concerned about her, like how she's feeling on the inside.

"What do you mean?" She asks.

"I mean, are you happy?" I say.

"Why wouldn't I be happy?" She asks.

"Because...because of me!" I blurt out. Whoops.

"Joey, what are you talking about?" She says, concerned.

"This all happened because of me! You've been through all this because of me. Why do you still even want to be around me anymore?"

"How many times have I told you not to feel bad? Nothing was that happened was your fault. I've never been happier than when when I'm with you." She says.

Before I can respond the waitress comes to take our orders. I get chicken of course, and Bethany gets salad. When the waitress leaves we are left in an awkward silence.

"So...your birthday is coming up soon." I say. Wow, Joey. Best subject change ever.

"Yeah, I guess it is." She says.

"Are your parents going to come visit or anything?"

"Probably not. I mean, it's just my birthday. Not like Christmas or anything. Besides, I don't think they would care."

"I'm sure they care at least a little bit."

Just then a different waitress comes to give us our food. She seems to linger a little longer than the waitress who took our order.

Bethany's POV:

The waitress that brought our food seems very attached to Joey. She comes back to our table to "check on us" at least five times while we eat. And each time she directs herself at Joey, not paying me any attention.

She's in the middle of telling some story to Joey. I don't think he actually cares, but he's too polite to say anything. When she finally leaves, he looks at me, annoyed.

"God, she's annoying." He complains.

"I'd say it looks like she likes you." I laugh.

"Why do you think that?"

I grab the check that she brought, and there's a little piece of paper attached to it that has her number and a little winking smiley face on it.

"I don't think waitresses give everybody their number." I say, showing Joey.

He laughs. "She must have been really desperate."

He crumples up the paper and throws it into a little trash can a few feet from our table.

We pay the bill and get up to leave. That waitress winks at Joey as we walk out the door.

Joey faces me abruptly when we are close enough for the waitress to see us and pulls me close, slamming his lips on mine. He makes sure the kiss lasts long enough that the waitress will see it. When he pulls away he takes my hand and walks to the door. My eyes meet the eyes of the waitress and she shoots me a glare.

I turn away and smile to myself as Joey and I walk away from the restaurant.

Well this was a crummy chapter. Sorry I didn't update yesterday, it was Thanksgiving and I was at people's houses until like 11:30 and I was super tired. I also have a little writers block and I'm trying to think of something to happen.
