Music blasting through the best headphones, her dress flying in the wind, Aki got out of the car with her luggage and looked upon the house in front of her. It didn't suit her.. no, of course it didn't, with the high pillars holding up the third-story master balcony and the double doors with windows going up to reveal the stairs in the second-story. The perfectly painted white walls and the artificially-grown vines climbing up the fence behind her. This house was for a famous person, she was just a 15 year old orphan.
She thanked the driver and carried her bags inside, happy he drove in along the 30 foot long driveway instead of dropping her off at the gates. She stepped inside the foyer and froze, it was beautiful.
It was horrible.
Just yesterday she had woken up and come down the uneven stairs in her small house and said goodbye to her Mom as she took her brothers for their driving test. Just yesterday she had tripped as she stumbled to pick up the phone, and thrown it at a wall when she found out the worst news of her life. Just yesterday she had scrambled to pack her stuff so that the NY police could take her across borders far from everything she'd ever known and dropped her off here, in Vancouver, BC, to live out the rest of her life in fear of the people that killed her family just for being related to her Father.
She never knew her Dad. He and her Mother had her brother three years before they got married, her twin brothers only a year after they got married, they were together for 9 years, had her, and then he left them all because he said he was gay. Her oldest brother Ryan lived with his girlfriend, being 28. Alex and Alen, the twins, were 25.
"Forget it..." She muttered. She would never be able to see anyone she knew before again, nor could she talk to them. For all those back home knew, she was dead just as her Mother and brothers were.
She made her way up the spiral staircase and slept the rest of the day.
