“The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.”

~The Great Gatsby; F. Scott Fitzgerald

Flash back… 1-2 years ago.

I went back for my friends at the cellar. I gave them thirty minutes to bring the collected spliffs money back to the Pooh-Bah. But it had been an hour and I have been waiting far too long for them.

From the darkness of my own car, I pulled out my revolver from the drawer and I stormed inside the warehouse. But the moment I did, John busted out of the door followed by Dan. Startled to see them, I point my gun at John who froze mid run. I almost pulled the trigger if I had not heard the gun shots behind Dan.  He shouts for us to move and all three of us made our way out of the warehouse.

“What the hell were you guys doing? Man, we’re so screwed up!” I shouted back at them. Dan curses as he continues to wring shots behind him.

I grabbed hold of John’s collar the moment we got in the parking lot. “What the f*ck happened?”

John pushed himself away from me. “He knew we stole the real money, Ivan. He’s after us—”

Dan curses again as he sees us at the parking lot. “Haven’t I told you both to run?”

I pointed my gun at him. “I told you to keep your mouth shut and let John do the transaction with him.”

“Easy, baby boy!” he raised his hands up. “Jeez, the guy’s a total douche!”

“And because of your darn shi*ty mouth we’re gonna die for it.” I said through gritted teeth.

“Well, you should have gone with us you pompous!” he says angrily and I lunged for him. John went in between us but I wanted to rip Dan’s head out of his body.

Thanks to the ringing gun shots behind us that it spared Dan’s dear life. I moved away from Dan and John helped him up.

“We need to lead him out of here.” I told them and I started giving them instructions with my plan. Each of us took off with our cars and we all agreed on taking the Pooh-Bah out of Solique town. When the job’s done, we’ll meet back at the intersection.

I gave John the head start by leading the Pooh-Bah around his own lot. When I knew that John and Dan were already out of reach I decided to head to the intersection. These ants were too hard to dispatch. I stepped on the gas of my Saab Phoenix and it zoomed on the road with an obliging speed. I wasn’t really showing off though because this is no race track, I still want them to catch up so that I could lead them out of Solique. As I neared the intersection, John’s Audi and Dan’s Aston Martin came in sight. I honked at them, signaling that I am not far behind. John exerted more speed on his car and Dan follows.

From my rearview mirror, I can see the SUVs following my tracks. I pulled my phone out and I dialed my dad’s number. He picked up on the third ring with a voice that says I woke him up from his sleep.

“What is it, Rupert—”

“This is not your assistant, Rick, this is your son.” I said as I glance back at my rearview mirror.
