Dinner is a quiet affair.
Has been ever since He came.
He hates us laughing,
hates us talking,
too loud,
too much,
about things that we love.

(Books, painting, that cool leaf Suki found in the garden, our next door neighbor and her siblings)

Siblings.
I try to keep a normal expression
as I eat dinner,
to Father's left.
My siblings.
Aoi's children?
No, my siblings.
Their mine
and I love them
and I want them,
but I know now
that keeping quiet is best.

Restraining my emotions,
is best.

"Will you leave tomorrow?"

Mother's asking Father.

He nods and speaks around
a mouthfull of rice,
my face twitches in disgust.

"Yes, in the afternoon."
