Suki and I have to eat with the kids
I want to stay and listen
My curiosity bubbles over
but the kids latch onto me
as soon as I walk into their room.

"Harmony!"
They chorus.
"Oh we missed you!
Daddy promised us
he said you'd come back
but you didn't!"

I blink in surprise.
They missed me?
A smile creeps it's way onto my lips
and I hug them back,

"I missed you too."

Suki looks out of place
and awfully awkward
as she sits on a stool
by the desk.

That's when I realize
that we're in our room.
But now, it's painted pink
and full of dolls and toys,
frills and sparkles.

Our old bed is replaced
by a beautiful white bunk bed
with a lace canopy.
There are shelves lined with books
and a new closet sits snugly
in the corner.

Oh,
I feel my heart sinking.
My eyes prickle
but I hold the tears back.

It's unfair!

my heart screeches

You're going to be alright.

my mind consoles.
