"You didn't think you were going to get in, did you?"
No sir, I did not.
"Well, you did."
That's where you're wrong, Mr. Vice Principal.

You haven't just admitted me.
You've admitted all the little girls I once was, too.
I wonder what they would think of this day.
If I could speak to them, I would say to them "Can you imagine?"

One, two, three year old me,
Fighting for your life,
Not supposed to walk, to breathe, to live,
Can you imagine making it seven years and counting past your expiration date?

Four, five, six year old me,
Soaking up knowledge like a sponge,
Reading all of your mom's textbooks,
Can you imagine a place where other people treasure knowledge as you do?

Seven, eight, nine year old me,
Spending so much time alone,
Not really sure what a friend is,
Can you imagine a place where everyone is kind, everyone respects you?

Ten, eleven, twelve year old me,
Struggling, falling behind,
Crying tears of shame in math class every day,
Can you imagine a school with individual tutoring every day?

Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen year old me,
Struggling to stay awake in class,
Surrounded by apathetic teachers and hopeless students,
Can you imagine a school where the teachers love their jobs and attending is an honor?

I will throw myself into this for you.
Do everything I can to make our dreams come true.
So that someday, some future self will look back to me and say:
"Can you imagine?"
