4 years later...

Adeline's POV

I was walking down the cold streets of London. I was bored and took a walk around town to busy myself. Also, I had just reaped the soul of a victim and had to go before people started to notice. The moments of his life kept going out of his body. The book laid in hand where the page of my victim with the seal 'Completed' in my pocket. I kept walking, knives hidden on each side of my boots. I wasn't one of those girls that wore dresses. No, thank you. That was just a phase, well.... a phase when I was alive. A small smile crept upon my lips at the thought but as soon as it came, it vanished. It was hard for me to smile ever since I woke up the day after my death. I cannot say I have lived quite the life.

I let out a sigh as I kept walking. I looked at my breath become smoke because of the cold weather. My hair had grown quite long over the time and it now went down my mid-back. My black boots hitting against the floor with every step I took. I let out another sigh. I looked at the side. People smiling, laughing... Parents with their children smiling happily... Young couples smiling at each other lovingly... "The world is so full of bullshit." I muttered under my breath not caring about my language. There was no one to tell me off anyway... I felt a slight pang on my stomach at that thought.

I didn't even had the time to look at the front for the following seconds. My body instantly collapsed with a surface. My eyes shut tight as I embraced myself for the impact... Which came, making me land on my behind on the cold floor, making it numb and wet from the snow. It felt my blood boil. I greeted my teeth ready to tell the person what I was thinking.

"Watch where you are going!" I said pissed. "Can't you pay attention to where you are going? I did not want to embrace the floor in a hug!" A femenine voice said. I opened my eyes and made eye contact with another pair of bright green eyes that were glaring at me. Probably thinking the same about using all the language known. I frowned with confusion as I looked at the person sitting on the floor.

Bright green eyes behind glasses... Familiar chocolate brown hair that went below the shoulders styled in a half crown braid... I remembered it being longer... White pale skin that got a little red whenever it came in contact with the cold...  A black dress and black boots that went up to the knee...

"Wait a minute..." We both said at the same time pointing at each other. "Ga-." In a second, I was on my knees putting my black gloved hand on her mouth. "Shhh! Not here!" I whispered/yelled. She frowned but then nodded. I took my hand off her mouth as we both stood up. Well, more like, she stood up and dusted off the dirt of her black dress and black coat as I stretched my arms. She turned to look at me with questioning look and then let out a huff. "Curse you." She muttered under her breath as she took my hands and pulled me up in a swift move. "Thank you." I said as it was my turn to dust off my clothes.

"Let's go for a stroll." She told me and put her black gloved hands inside the pockets of her coat. I nodded and started walking next to her. "So... Did you change your name?" She asked in a low voice. We were both focused on the pathway. I don't think either she or me would want to bump into someone else today. "Yes, I did it for safety purposes. It's Adeline now." I told her and could see her smile on the corner of my eye. "Glad to know I am not the only one. From now on, call me Rosalie." She said and let a small giggle. "What?" Alex-, I mean, Rosalie asked. "Why that name?" I asked and she just shrugged. "It was the first name I thought of when I came to know I was somehow alive." Rosalie said. "You are one of those people, too?" I asked feeling a small ting of nervousness and panic but also hope and hapiness. What if she wasn't the same kind of person I was? What if she just laughed at me and told me she was just joking and that she was still human? We did not know about the other since our parents meeting... A week before the incident the ball. 4 years ago... Meaning Rosalie was 18 and I was 17.

"Yes, indeed. I am a demon." She whispered and I let out a small breath of relief. "Wait, what?" I came to a halt stop when I realized what she said and looked at her with fear and panic rushing through my body. She looked at me with a poker face that I could not tell what she was thinking. And let me tell you, in all these years of friendship, I could tell Rosalie was quite a transparent person when it came to showing her feelings. Whether her face, the tone of her voice or her eyes gave her away. She was not one of those people to hide her feelings, she would show them, but maybe just not the true ones.

After I don't know how long, her serious face started to look more and more forced until I could see a small smile creeping upon her lips that soon became a wide smile as she started to laugh. Rosalie was holding her stomach as she laughed loudly. I gave her a deadpan stare and waited for her to finish. "Have you finished?" I asked annoyed and she put her hand in front of my face. She let out a few more giggles until her laughter died down but her smile was still plastered on her face. She wiped away a few tears that slipped as she calmed down. Rosalie turned to look a me. "That was quite a laugh. You made my day, Ad. Anyway, I cannot believe you swallowed that. It is really obvious if I say so myself." Rosalie said making my blood boil once again and my eye twitch at the nickname. This girl knew how to get the worst out of me. "I am a Grim Reaper, just like you." She said in a low voice filled with excitement. "You like being one?" I asked, curiosity laced in my voice. It wasn't that I hated being a Grim Reaper, in fact, I liked it... A lot. "Indeed. Revenge is sweet." Rosalie said making me giggle. "Cheers to that." I said and we soon kept walking in the cold, catching up in everything we missed. Including our own deaths...
