As Christians when we surrender our lives to God then we are supposed to turn away from our sin. Thats what repenting means. Repenting is turning away from your old life and making a new one in Christ. I mean if we don't do that then we haven't really been transformed by the grace of God. Thats the whole point of being a christian, to show your transformation in Christ to bring others to know Him. If we're not doing that then we aren't following His Great Commission that He told us to do which was to go and make disciples. So if we're not doing any of that then we can't really call ourselves Christians. We can't surrender our lives to Christ unless we've repented.
