Impossible

Draco walked into the empty bathroom and slumped over one of the sinks. He was alone, it seemed everyone else had somewhere to be on Christmas. He looked into the blotchy mirror and, lost in his thoughts, a song he had heard came to mind. It was muggle, but wasn't that just more fitting really?

He let his head fall down as he hummed the intro to the song. The soft humming helped cure the silence a bit, but his song filled it.

I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
caution when it comes to love
I did

And you were strong
And I were not
My illusion, my mistake
I was careless, I forgot
I did

A tear slipped down Draco's cheek and down into the sink. Why was he never strong enough? Never good enough?

And now when all is done
There is nothing to say
You have gone and so effortlessly
You have won
You can go ahead and tell them

Flashes of potter filled his mind as he supported his weight onto the sink. He won, after all Harry had won.

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the rooftops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible

Secretly Draco had hoped he and Harry would somehow keep in contact. He knew what would happen if he confessed to Harry, he would tell everyone.

Falling out of love is hard
Falling for betrayal is worse
Broken trust and broken hearts
I know,
I know...

Harry and never betrayed him, but Draco felt as though he had betrayed Harry. Like he had betrayed everyone.

Thinking all you need is there
Building faith in love and words
Empty promises will wear
I know,
I know...

And now when all is done
There is nothing to say

What was left after the war between them? The bantering Draco had clung to so desperately was no longer ongoing.

And if you're done with
embarrassing me
On your own
You can go ahead and tell them

He knew how pathetic he must look in everyone else's eyes, besotted with someone who wouldn't even look at him. He forcefully grabbed his hair as he belted out the chorus.

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the rooftops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible

He looked up the image in the mirror, it was blurry. If his tears weren't streaming steadily affecting his sight he might've noticed who else was in the reflection before their voice cut through the sound of sobs.

I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did

Draco turned, begging this was not some sick joke or hallucination. Harry walked towards him, still singing. Draco could not take it if this were not real.

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the rooftops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible
Impossible

Harry sang and opened his arms, hesitantly Draco walked into his embrace. But he didn't hesitate to clutch on when Harry held him close and whispered;
"I love you"

Sobs wracked his body as relief washed over him.

And Harry understood and held him tighter as they stood in the dimly lit room, bodies entwined and hearts connected at last.

From then on keeping them apart was impossible.

A quick song-fic kinda thing cause I heard this song and I had just had to make something for it :)
