"Are you going to leave?"
"Your dad said I could spend the night."
"Odd man, that man." Taylor said walking over to her bed and climbing underneath the cover. "I mean who lets a thirteen year old have a boy sleep over, let alone in her bed?"
"Apparently your father," Ethan said climbing behind Taylor, wrapping his arm around her. "He knows that you need a friend tonight."
"And you will be with me all day tomorrow?"
"I won't leave you." He said calmly into her ear. Taylor closed her eyes and fell asleep.
There was loud knocking on the door, "Taylor! Time to wake up!" Taylor opened her eyes to see that she was lying alone in her bed. She rolled over and glanced at the clock, letting out a small groan. Taylor rubbed her eyes and then got out of bed slowly, walking to her mirror and began to run her brush through her long light brown hair. She pulled it into a loose ponytail and then walked out of her bedroom.
She instantly heard the voices and the noise from the hustle and bustle of everyone getting ready downstairs. Taylor slowly walked down the stairs to see women getting their hair done. The bride, Ellen, was pacing a little. "Oh good, you are awake. Your father went to the hotel about an hour ago, don't worry he left before I got here."
"Good, I was worried." Taylor muttered.
"What was that dear?"
"Nothing," Taylor said smiling looking up at Ellen. Taylor grabbed a banana and began to eat it. "Did you see Ethan?"
"Yes, he left about fifteen minutes ago. He had to go and get ready. He asked me if he had to be with the other groomsman or if he could come back to be with you. I said it was his decision. He is such a sweet boy, and you two make such a great couple."
"We aren't together." Taylor said for what seemed like the tenth time to Ellen.
"Right, sorry. Today is just a very busy day. Now you need to get your hair and make-up done. We have to be at the hotel in a little over an hour." Taylor reluctantly sat down by one of the stylists, so that the woman could begin doing her hair. "Hannah should be here any minute." Ellen muttered to herself.
Soon enough the front door opened and Ellen's daughter, Hannah walked through the door. She was almost a year younger than Taylor. Her brown hair had already been done up in some type of fancy bun, causing Ellen to freak out, debating about whether or not it was acceptable for the wedding.
They were getting ready to load into the van to go over to the hotel when the doorbell rang. Hannah walked over and opened up the door. "Is Taylor ready?" Ethan asked.
Taylor stood up and walked towards the front door. Ethan was in his tux; his hair gelled back so that it was out of his eyes. "Hi," she said quietly.
"Hey," Ethan said, almost as quietly. Taylor was wearing a burgundy dress, her hair had been done up similarly to how Hannah's was. "You look great." He said, giving Taylor a hug.
"You too." She smiled at the fact that she was really towering over him with heels on.
"Yeah right are you guys not a couple." Hannah said pushing past them.
"Shut up, you're just mad you have to walk with your brother." Hannah glared at Taylor, but didn't respond.
"You ready to go?" Ethan asked taking her hand.
"Go?" She asked confused. "Aren't we going with everyone else?"
"Your dad is outside, ready to take us to the hotel."
"What? He is not at the hotel?" Ellen walked over.
"Everything is ready and good," Ethan said turning to her. "But we do need to get going."
They walked hand in hand out the door and to her dad's car. "You look beautiful Taylor."
"Thanks dad." Taylor wanted to be more appreciative of all that her father has done; she knew she had been ungrateful and bitchy during the engagement. So she decided to try her best to be sincere for the rest of the day.
Taylor finished her soda and felt a tap on her shoulder; she turned to see Ethan standing right behind her, holding out his hand. "Are you asking me to dance?" She asked raising her eyebrow.
"No. Here come with me."
Taylor bit her bottom lip and then put her hand in Ethan's allowing him to help her stand up. "Where are we going?" She asked but Ethan didn't respond. Instead he led her out of the room and into the entranceway. They kept walking out the doors out towards the garden.
"C'mon!" He said, pulling on her hand.
"Hold on, these stupid heels." She said and then took them off and held them both by the strap in the other hand.
"You look really good." He said again as they continued to walk.
"Thanks." Taylor said looking at her feet a little.
"I mean it, you look all girly. It's different, it's nice."
"Don't expect it often."
"I don't know if I could handle it." He said as they sat down on a bench. "You are Taylor, you wear you ripped jeans and hoodies. And that is the Taylor I love, the one that is my best friend."
"You're my best friend too." She said resting her head on his shoulder. The silence was broken by the sound of footsteps coming towards the bench. They both turned to see Taylor's dad walking towards them. "Congrats dad."
"Thanks honey." He said crouching down so that he and Taylor had the same eye level. "You did great today; it seemed as if you were genuinely happy for Ellen and myself."
"I am happy for you dad, this is just hard."
"I know. But I did do this for you; Ellen really loves you, and I know you care about her too." Taylor nodded. "I didn't want to tell you yet, but you deserve to know the truth."
"What?" Taylor said quietly, as Ethan took her hand in his.
"A couple of weeks ago, I was diagnosed with cancer."
"No," she said quietly shaking her head.
"After Ellen and I get back from the honeymoon, I'm going to have surgery."
"No," Taylor repeated.
"The success and recovery rate is very high; I don't want you to worry. But I wanted to make sure you had a family that loves you just in case." Taylor had tears streaming down her face. "I love you, Taylor."
"I love you too Dad." She said as he hugged her. Ethan let go of her hand, allowing her to hug her dad fully.
"Don't worry, it will be okay." He said rubbing his daughter's back. "We'll get through it."
