A week passed and Alexis Brook had settled into Professor Xavier's School for the Gifted extremely well. Even though she was perhaps one of the only students there who didn't know what her mutation was she had never felt so at home in her entire life.

The teachers currently seemed a bit tense and 'odd', and the rumour was that it had something to do with the Rogue girl. Part of Alexis had hoped to befriend the girl, newbies had to stick together after all, but she hardly ever saw her.

Alexis was brought back down to earth by someone saying her name.

"Alexis."

Alexis jumped, startled; she looked around her surroundings quickly before remembering where she was: Storm's class.

And it was Storm who was staring down at her patiently, "Professor Xavier would like to see you."

"Uhh okay." Alexis clumsily got up from her seat and exited the room, feeling the weight of the everyone's stares.

Once she reached the door of the Professor's office she knocked hesitantly.

"Come in!"

Alexis pushed open the door and entered his office, "Hello, Professor."

Professor Xavier looked up from something which he was reading on his desk and smiled at Alexis, his eyes crinkling as he did so, "Alexis. Please come in and sit down." He said, gesturing to the seat in front of his desk.

Alexis shut the door behind and did as she was asked. Once she was sat down the Professor pushed the papers on his desk to the side and gave her his undivided attention.

"So, Alexis, I hear that you've settled in well, is that correct?" He asked her.

"Yes," she nodded, "I actually really like it here Professor."

"Good." Professor X smiled at her again before sitting forward slightly, "Now, about your mutation.."

Alexis suddenly remembered Bobby's words and before she could stop herself blurted out, "Something happened."

"What happened, Alexis?"

"Well the other night, when that, uh, thing happened with Mr Logan and Rogue, I woke up because of all the noise people were making when they went to.. Uh..." Alexis trailed off awkwardly. It felt wrong to discuss, mention or even imply the idea of 'gossiping ' in front of the Professor. However he was unfazed.

"When they went to have a look?" He offered, eyes sparkling ever so slightly.

Alexis nodded and swallowed, "It was only when I told Bobby that I'd woken up because of the noise that he pointed out that everyone was whispering, if that, and my room was so far away that I shouldn't have been able to hear anything."

"Bobby Drake?"

"Yes, Professor."

"Ah yes, I heard that you two had become firm friends," he paused, "And I do believe he has a point. Although it's not really enough to help us discover what your mutation is, specifically, it is a clue."

Alexis couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. She was surrounded by other mutants all the time, and although she felt at home, she couldn't help but want to know what her mutation was.

She burst out, a little angrily, "How come it just shows up one day? Only once, but enough for my life to change completely, and then completely disappears again. I mean, the only clue we have is that my listening skills should be pretty good now!" She huffed, crossing her arms.

As quickly as it had came, her anger vanished, and if anything she was left feeling a little ashamed at her outburst.

The Professor watched her carefully, "Mutations tend to manifest in times of emotional stress. You just have to trust that everything will become clear; I personally believe that your mutation will show itself again soon, it's just the way they work to begin with."

Alexis looked down at her lap miserably; a horrible sense of sadness had overwhelmed her. She was not in control of herself anymore, her mutation was.

Professor X was obviously in her mind, "That will change, Alexis." He said sternly, "Once we know what your mutation is we can help you control it. It's hardest at the beginning."

Alexis plastered on a fake smile, "Thanks Professor."

"You're not fooling me, Alexis. You may take the rest of the day off from your studies if you wish."

Alexis shook her head, "Thank you, Professor, but I don't think I will, it's a distraction you see."

Professor Xavier nodded, admiring her for stating her true wishes, "Very well, I hope you have a splendid day, Miss Brook."

With that their meeting had ended. Leaving Alexis feeling more frustrated than ever, and the Professor feeling slightly sorry for the poor girl.
