(Lucy's POV)

Another student from the local high school is sitting in the corner of the dark basement. "Luke got you too?" I ask quietly. She nods her head slowly. I crawl towards her as I had not yet stood up. When did this happen? How did I not notice her here? She starts to coward back further into the corner. "Come here, Jasmine," She slowly comes from the corner, but makes no effort to move towards me.

I move towards her and hug her as she sobs into my shoulder. Jasmine's more of an acquaintance. We normally spoke in classes and in the halls, but that's it. "How long have you been here?" I ask her quietly.

"Two days I would like to say," She answers.

"I have been here for almost a week. How come I've never seen you?" I can't stop myself from asking questions. There's so much I don't know and I can't stand it.

"Well, when Luke brought me, Shane brought me in through the back door and told me not to leave the room unless instructed and to be quiet," She explains. I nod as it starts to make sense. Why would they intentionally try to hide her though? Maybe it's because I'm so difficult.

"Have you been eating?" She shakes her head. "I'll be right back."

I stand up and walk towards the door. I walk up the narrow steps and take a deep breath before entering the light. My surprise hits me at the fact that the door is actually unlocked. I walk into the kitchen where I hear Shane whispering something.

"You haven't fed her?" I snap, surprising Shane who's at the table doing what looks like a crossword.

"So?" He asks, not looking up.

"So, you can attempt to feed me but not her?" I ask.

"It's not like she's dying." He rolls his eyes, obviously annoyed.

"If you continue not to feed her, she will start dying." I state, matching his annoyed tone.

"Look, I'm not feeding her, okay?" Shane snaps, raising his voice.

"If you don't feed her, II'll kill myself and make it look like you did it. Then what would Lu-"

"Okay! Damn just shut the hell up. I'll bring it later." He says.

I couldn't contain the laugh that escaped my mouth. "Uh, no. You won't. I'll bring it to her after I make it," I tell him, walking to the fridge. Luke's obsession with me is the only reason I find myself snapping. Shane wouldn't do anything he hasn't already done. And I could take that if it meant saving a life. I hear him mumble something under his breath but decide to ignore it. It's strange that I have so much courage for the other people in my life, but I'm too scared to fight my own battles.

I start to make some chicken in the deep fryer with French fries. When the chicken is done, the fries come minutes later. I get her some Pepsi and finish it off with a small pie to the side. This isn't even close to what I would get, but she needs it more than I do. I find myself longing to try it though.

I walk past Shane with the food tray in my hand. Pushing open the door, I walk down the steps and back to the corner. She looks at the food hungrily, yet scared. "Don't worry, I made it," I tell her softly.

After setting the tray in her lap, she starts to eat hungrily. My heart breaks for her, even though I'm in the exact same position. The only thing we could really do was go back upstairs. Shane wouldn't do anything because the house is basically a prison. When Jasmine finishes, I take the tray and bring it upstairs. I slam it onto the table causing Shane to jump slightly. When was he suddenly so jumpy?

Something is off with him. He seems to be... different in some way. Not able to quite put my finger on it, I walk back downstairs to the basement. I grab Jasmine's hand and we walk up the basement steps together.
