(This is a songfic, but this story might also be triggering to very sensitive people.)

Maybe I'm a crook for stealing your heart away

Maybe I'm a crook for not caring for it

Maybe I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad person

Baby I know

Link looked over to you, his heart aching when your eyes connected. You both stayed like that, before you sadly looked away, your eyes dropping to the floor. The guilt you felt was never-ending, though you truly didn't have anything to be guilty for. You couldn't help it, you loved him, and... he loved you, too. So that's probably why you feel so horrible.

So I think it's best we both forget before we dwell on it

The way you held me so tight all through the night 'til it was near morning

You walk away, the memory still a fresh wound in your mind. The memory replays constantly, the memory of when Link had held you in your bed, telling you it would be okay, that you would both be fine. But honestly, who's kidding? This would never be fine. Your eyes landed on the castle in front of you. Your temper rises, and you quickly walk away from it. The place was just an eyesore at this point.

Because you, love, love, love when you know I can't love

You love, love, love when you know I can't love

You love, love, love, when you know I can't love you

It was true, the two of you had been through everything together. But you never thought the two of you would be facing this together. Who could guess you two would fall in love when the both of you clearly knew that it was never meant to be? Link was in love with you, hopelessly in love and he couldn't deny it anymore which lead to that night where you both got as close as possible while hiding in the darkness of your room. It was amazing, it was... nothing. It couldn't be anything but nothing. So for your own sake, and for Link's, you had to stop. You have to pretend that what happened that night never did actually take place. You have to pretend that your heart doesn't soar when Link says those three words quietly in your ear for only you to hear, you have to lie about how you smiled so brightly everytime he did. You couldn't love Link. He was for someone else, someone so much more important than you would ever be. Princess Zelda.

And these fingertips will never run through your skin

And those bright blue eyes can only meet mine

Across a room filled with people that are less important than you

You sighed. It wasn't like if Zelda didn't love him as well, you could be together. You were a man, and so was Link. You would be killed, Link would be warned to never do such a thing again. Because let's face it, Link was more important than anyone else would ever be, especially you. They would slit your throat with no second thought to it and then break Link's heart, stomp on him until he would be too frightened to ever fall in love again. So now, those bright blue eyes could only meet yours from a distance.

You look down at your hand, before clenching them into tight fists. You remember how soft his skin was, and how goosebumps made a trail when he touched your arms. Now everything changed, and you could never be the same again. You would never touch Link again, never talk to him like before and run through several towns and villages helping people together again. It just wouldn't be the same.

Because you, love, love, love when you know I can't love

You love, love, love when you know I can't love

You love, love, love when you know I can't love you

Finally, you stopped at a bridge, it's stones shining in the sunlight as you begin to hoist yourself up. You sit on the edge, staring at the water below that reflects your image. You see nothing but a pathetic, weak coward.  You would never be able to compete against Zelda, you would never be able to take her precious hero away from her like she did to you.

You couldn't love Link, you weren't allowed and that was that. The burning sensation in your chest was so overwhelming that you just couldn't take it anymore, you had to get rid of it entirely, for the both of you. This is the only way the both of you could truly move on. You scoot yourself closer to the edge until the only reason you were still sitting was that of the trembling hands clutching at the bridge. Then, you take your last breath of fresh air, staring at the blue sky as your body drops to the water below waiting to eat you up. Your lips cracked a smile.

The sky reminded you of his eyes.
