You felt Alphonse's arms finally wrap around you, and you quickly raised your arms to his back and gripped on his shirt tightly, your face nestled in between his neck and shoulder, crying and making his shirt wet. He whispered sweet nothings into your ears, stroking your back and patting your head, running his fingers through it, knowing that always calmed you down.
After Al had calmed you down and got you some water, he sat next to you on the floor. He sighed, running a hand through his dirty blonde hair. The action made you cringe.
"Wow." He breathed, and you gave a dry laugh.
"Yeah." You took a glance at him. "Sorry I made your shirt wet and put a few holes in it. I know it's your favorite." You looked back down at the glass in your hands.
"It's fine. I can buy a new one." He smiled at you, before frowning and running his hand up and down your back again, something he usually did on an impulse. Al looked down at his feet, and sighed again.
"I'm so sorry, (Y/n). I didn't know you were going through all of that. It must have been really stressful." He felt you shrug. "I really wished you would have told me sooner, but I guess that's okay. I feel like punching myself for making you feel that way though."
"It's not your fault. I didn't tell you sooner, just like you said."
"It's no ones fault, (Y.n)." He smiled. "I just thought you knew me better. I have no idea what would make you think I don't want kids." You turned your head to him again, your eyes red and puffy from crying.
"What?"
"(Y/n), I love you so much. Kids aren't going to change that, in fact," He puts his hand on yours that lied on the floor between you two, squeezing it a little. "It makes me love you even more. It's amazing. I'm glad we're going to have kids."
You squeezed his hand back, tightly so you wouldn't cry again. "Stop making me cry today, Alphonse..."
"Woops. I'm sorry." He gave you a closed eyed smile, and it must have been contagious, because soon you were smiling too.
"Look, I know, I know," His eyebrows lowered, and he started to look at the floorboard again. "I know that things are a little... reversed, and weird, right now." You gave him a confused look. "I don't have a speech or anything, you know I'm not really good at those. But you told me your big secret, so I got to return the favor, right? Equivalent Exchange?" Alphonse laughed a little bit, fumbling with his pocket. It stayed in there for a moment, and you saw Al think for a moment, before giving a determined look to his shoes and letting out a puff of air. "Okay, I got this." He rolled over in front of you, on one of his knees. You didn't think much of it, but you just laughed.
"Alphonse, what are you doing?"
Before he could continue, someone opened the door. Al quickly went on both knees, and looked over his shoulder.
Winry was there. She looked at you and Al shocked. The blonde noticed your puffy eyes.
"Ooh, did you tell him? Just now?" You laughed, and nodded. She blushed a little out of embarrassment. "Wow, um, so, yeah. I just came over," She ran over and grabbed her scarf and the mistletoe."To get these..." You gave her a confused look. "Don't ask." She laughed, and went to the door. Not before looking back over and glaring at Al. "I'm expecting good news tomorrow, Alphonse. I got my eye on you...."
"I get it!! Just go!!" Al flushed, making Winry roll her eyes and exit the house. "Talk about a mood-killer..." Alphonse sighed, folding his arms on your knees and resting his head there. "Sorry, (Y.n), I don't think I can say it now..." He hid his face in his arms, making you giggle out of how cute he was when he was flustered.
That's when you noticed the small dark blue box on the floor, just an arm reach away. You reached over and grabbed it. "What's this?" Gaining Alphonse's attention, he looked up, and gasped. One of his hands flew to his pocket, that was now empty. "Is this yours?" He nodded furiously, not able to speak words. He reached over for it, but now you were curious. You put it away from his reach. "What's in this?"
"(Y.n)!!" He begged, crawling around you in attempt to get it. You were slowly growing aware to the fact of what was in the box. It was obvious by now. The way he was trying so hard to get it away from you, the mention of things being reversed and speeches. You put your hand over to his that was in midair, and he sighed of relief. About to grab the box and take his hand away, you laced your fingers with his, the tiny box in between your hands. He looked down at you, surprised to see you smiling brightly at him. "(Y.n)?"
You pulled your body upwards, your other hand lying on his cheek. "Yes." You said, and kissed him. You pulled back, his face dumbfounded. "Yes, I'll marry you, Alphonse." He gasped, his face growing red, and his lips forming a straight line.
"What? R-really? I-I mean, how did you?"
"It's quite obvious, isn't it? I mean," You pushed on his hand a little bit, bringing his attention back to the box. "Come on. What else would you be so desperate for that could fit in this?" He continued to stare at you, before a smile formed on his face. He lowered your hands to the ground, dropping the box and intertwining your fingers again, feeling the flesh of your hand now. You both leaned in and kissed, a sweet, simple one.
"I didn't even do it right.." He sighed, for the millionth time that night, and rested his head on your shoulder. You used your free hand to stroke his hair.
"Hey, I've got a question for you." He hummed, and you rested your head against his.
"How long have you had this ring on you?" He tensed up at your question.
"2 months..."
"Alphonse..." You laughed, a short, light laugh that made Al's heart soar. "I guess we're both kinda bad at this." You hummed.
"How are we ever going to survive." He groaned.
"I'm surprised we made it this far."
"Ain't that the truth." He snorted, bringing his head to your level and kissing you. "Hey, (Y/n)?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you." He said, reaching for the box and opening it, bringing the ring out. He put it on your ring finger, and kissed it lightly. "So much."
You brought the hand up to your face, and gasped at how beautiful the ring was. You hated that he spent so much money on one piece of jewelry for you, but it was just like Alphonse to do that. You put your hand on his cheek again, rubbing it with your thumb, making him lean into the touch. The look in his eye, it was so soft and full of love and compassion. How did you get a man like this to love you in the first place?
"I love you too, dork."
