Dear Soldier

My dear soldier,

At the airport we waved goodbye.

I hate the idea of waiting for the messenger.

In the end I don’t want to have to ask “why?”

God has his plan and I have mine.

I wish it would go my way this time.

As I wait I smell the sweet scent of being fine.

During the night I sleep a little the size of a dime.

In the morning I awoke to a cold bed.

I followed a path that lead to you.

When I received a letter my stomach fled.

I can only wish you knew.

My dear soldier,

Oh, If only you knew.

How much I love you.

If morning to night I’d stay in flight

If only to see you once again.

The smile on your face.

I don’t care which place.

To kiss you in darkness or light

I believed you’d come home.

Today I took the flag.

I held it in honor of you.

I hope God blesses you.

He took you home.

Even without you our child has grown.

Oh, how he looks like you.

One day I’m sure he’ll meet you too.
