The Missing Link (a Harry Potter reader insert story)

Option 2: Earl Grey

"So, you decided which pet you want to buy?" Akane began rocking back and forth on her heels.

"I think I'll go with the cat. He was kinda mean but, I think we'll get along." As you finished your sentence, Akane walked back into the store (kitten in hand) and waved dramatically back at you. You stood in silence for awhile, waiting for your friend to come back. You heard footsteps behind you, and turned around and saw the same set of twins you had seen in the bookstore. You remembered their names were Tyler and Kaitlyn.

"Hey, aren't you that girl we saw in the bookstore?" Kaitlyn look at you with her eyebrow raised.

"Oh, um, yeah I am." The girls fiery haze made you nervous.

"Were you able to find all your proper books? You know, with the store a mess and all." Tyler was speaking this time, his head cocked to the side slightly. Even though they were the exact same colour as his sister's, his eyes seemed to hold much more warmth.

"Yes, I found all the books I needed." You spoke louder this time, feeling much more comfortable with the boy than his sister.

"So, what are doing out here? All by yourself." Kaitlyn seemed much more interested in a thread on her dress, than in the question she had asked.

"My friend is helping me pick out a pet. She's in there buying it now." You pointed to the store and watched the twos expressions, seeing the girls turn to one of shock, while her brother just smiled.

"You can't afford your own pet?" Kaitlyn made a queer face and began to giggle, earning a ride look from her brother.

"I think it's nice that your friends helping you out." Tyler smiled. The door of the shop burst open, and put came a very rough looking Akane, and terrified orange kitten, and a smug looking black cat.

"W-what happened?" You were very surprised at the sight, as well were the twins, judging from their expressions.

"That crazy cat nearly killed me!" Akane pointed to the cat, that was now yours, and attempted to fix her now unruly hair. The cat walked up to you and sat down, mewing quietly and feigning innocence.  You scooped up the cat and laughed, looking at your friends shocked expressions.

The twins said their farewells, Kaitlyn glaring at Akane the whole time, and you and her started off towards the cafe.

"What are you gonna name him?" Akane gestured to the cat sleeping in your arms.

"I think I'll name him Earl, short for Earl Grey." Akane looked confused.

"Isn't that a tea?"

"Yeah, and it's a bitter tea, unless you put some honey in it." Akane looked at you and laughed, causing you too as well.
