"Liz."
"Lizzie"
"Elizabeth."
I feel someone poke my side and sway away whatever it is keeping my eyes shut and my head smashed into the pillow.
I feel the bed dip to the side and suddenly feel the presence of someone next to me, but instead reply with a, "go away" grunt.
"Good morning sunshine." I hear KJ.
"Kaden James if you don't leave me alone I'll bite you." I grumble out.
"And she's violent when sleepy." He chuckles to himself. "Come on Liz, we have to get to dinner at your house.."
"What time is it?" I ask peering up at him slightly.
He laughs and smiles, "you fell asleep for two hours."
I lifted my head at him,"two hours?" I say shocked.
He simply nodded and I looked to him, "well you got that mysterious call and then left"
"For five minutes and when I came back you were out." He says a-matter-of-factly
I roll my eyes and sit up, letting some of my weight lean against KJ
"Why don't you call me Kaden anymore? You used to be the only one who did." KJ Asks drawing circles mindlessly on my arms. I shrugged, why had I stopped? All the guys always called him KJ but I wanted to call him something different and me as a stubborn 10 year old did just that.
"I guess I just got used to KJ after awhile." I reply back.
He peels his eyes away from my hands and looks to me, "I miss that." He starts looking back down.
I nudge him and smile, "it's still the same old us."
"Lizzie and Kaden against the world." KJ laughs remarking the old journal we started back in elementary school.
It was a usual school week and we had been walking to the pick up area and coming up with new ideas for each other. We somehow came about deciding to write it all down in a book. 'Lizzie and Kaden against the world' was splattered on the front in messy childhood handwriting and stickers covered every open space of the cover.
"I wonder where that is." I speak up smiling at the memory.
And at that KJ jumps up and runs out of the room to his own. I hear furious russeling and get up and walk over to his room. Plopping down on his bed, "you didn't seriously save that did you?"
"Of course I did."
"Awe what a sap!"
He rolls his eyes at me and runs a hand through his hair continuing to rummage through drawers and piles of basically everything.
"Ah ha!" I hear him slam a drawer shut and then he looks to me with wide eyes and shoves the book into my lap sitting down next to me. We lean against the headboard and I put my legs up to support the book in my lap.
The cover was a bit warn but you could still make out 'Lizzie and Kaden against the world'
I couldn't help but smile as we flipped through the torn pages.
"Build a rocket ship." KJ points, "damn we were ambitious" he chuckles nudging me.
"We could still do it..." I laugh at KJ.
"Mmhm sure babe." And my heart stops for a second.
I sit back and take the moment in. I rest my head against KJs shoulder and let out a sigh. "We should go Lizzie." KJ nudges me gently.
I sigh and shake my head, "let's just...stay for a moment." It was something about the comfort and happiness I felt with him. Like nothing could ever change in that moment.
That is until it did.
