After the bell rang the next day, Mark, who looked very distressed, walked into the classroom. Lucas, Riley and Farkle staid.
"Where's Maya?" Asked Riley.
"She's absent. I came to get her work."
"Why is she absent?" Asked Cory, finding the homework for his fifth period class.
"She got home at three last night and she was really bruised and battered. She said that she fell down the stairs at work."
"Why are you so angry?"
"Because she didn't fall down the stairs!"
"Then what happened?"
"I don't know. No one knows!"
"What if we can help you find out?" Asked Riley.
"You can't because she hates you guys."
"How would you know? You said she never talks about us."
"When she's sober."
"Maya drinks?" Asked Lucas.
"On two occasions she has spoken of you guys and she hates you guys so stay away from her."
"We're friends again." said Riley.
"Maya's friends with a lot of people. The word friends is very generalized to her. Are you a close friend? No."
"Here." Said Cory, passing him the papers.
"What are you to her?"
"I'm basically her brother. And a lot closer then you guys could dream of being to her."
"Get her drunk." Said Farkle.
"Excuse me?"
"If she gets drunk, Maybe she will tell you what's going on."
"She hasn't gotten drunk in a year. She's stubborn. She need control in her life so she does not drink alcohol."
"I always thought that she would be easily addicted." Said Lucas.
"Maybe she's just that afraid of spilling her secret."
"It's worth a try."
"I have tried. She won't do it." Said Mark.
"No getting Maya drunk." Said Cory.
"Then how do we get an answer?" Said Farkle.
"You can figure it out. I can help you but you can't get her drunk."
"Fine."
"So, we working together?"
"I wouldn't do that to her." Said Mark, leaving.
