Chapter 7: We are all 7 year-olds trapped in the bodies of adults.

Autumn's P.O.V

I read mom's text twice, and then a third time.

"Hey Holden, do we know any Matt?" I yell and Holden enters the living room, collapsing on the couch next to me.

"Oh, your crush from grade 2, Matt? The Matt who you punched when he asked for your cheese crackers?" he frowns and I cringe.

I was a reckless kid.

"If its that Matt, then yes, I remember him. What about it?" he adds and I sink into the couch, handing him my phone.

"Autumn, clean up the guest room, Matt will be living with us until Thanksgiving." Holden recites the text and I groan.

Matt, better yet, Matthew Anderson, the son of my father's best friend Nicholas Anderson and I were in the same school till grade 7. We were close friends until the day his family suddenly decided to change towns. I haven't been in touch with him since.

"Why is he shifting here for three months?" Holden asks and I shrug.

"When does he reach?"

I stare at him.

"Did you get in touch with the plumber, for the faulty shower-head?" he asks the third question and I hit him with a cushion.

"What'd you do that for?" he shrieks and I grunt.

"I don't know why he's shifting or when he's reaching here. Mom's cryptic text is all I know. You, mister, were supposed to get in touch with the plumber, not me."

Holden's eyes widen and then he sighs.

"Unless the doorbell rings in the next minute with Matt waiting outside, I could call up the plumber and get it fixed. Dad would never know."

The doorbell rings and I gasp.

"You really had to jinx it, didn't you Autumn?" Holden glares and I show him the middle finger.

I open the door and find a very tall and handsome male on the other side. Blue eyes bright, a small smile on his lips. He holds a suitcase in one hand and a coat in the other.

"Matt?" I ask and he grins.

"Hey man, how are you? You just disappeared without a trace." Holden jokes and Matt laughs- a melodious sound, but not like Tristan's.

I take the coat from Matt's hand and Holden takes the suitcase.

I hang the coat on the hanger and pull Holden to the side.

"What about the shower-head?" I whisper and he shrugs.

"What about the shower-head?" Matt joins and I yelp.

Great.

"Oh the shower-head of the bathroom is leaking- I should have gotten that fixed." Holden fills and I hang my head in embarrassment.

"That's cool. I know how to fix that if you have the tools?" Matt raises his eyebrow.

Whoa. What?

"Oh no, its really nothing. I'll call the plumber right away and get it done." Holden answers and Matt shakes his head.

I slowly back away from the conversation and enter my room. My eyes immediately searching for the boy next door.

"Are you looking for me Autumn Grey?" Tristan raises his eyebrows and I roll my eyes.

"Wouldn't you want that?" I answer and he laughs, his head tipping back, the veins of his neck, clearly visible.
