I can't run anymore I thought as I slowed to a walk, and finally laid down on a mossy log. As soon as the sun had gone down, I had ran as far from my group as I could. There are several groups of both wild and stray cats all throughout the forest, and I had been a part of one. I was the best hunter, but I was always jumping at the smallest sounds. I'm not sure why; I guess I am just easily scared. My group had had enough of me jumping and scaring off prey or alerting intruders where we were. Everyone started swiping or biting me at random and mocking me all the time. I couldn't help it I thought to myself. Eventually, I decided to leave and never go back. I would carry on my own life somewhere else. I got up from the log and decided to try to find somewhere to sleep. I wandered around for a while until I found a hollow under a tree. I started to walk in, but paused. Is there something in there I thought to myself.
"H-hello?" I called out hesitantly. Something under the tree moved and I jumped back into a bush.
"Oh! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you," a figure said as it emerged. It was a large brown and black dog with gentle eyes. He also had a black spot over his right eye.
"I-it's all right. I was just looking for a place to stay, but I guess this isn't it. Sorry to disturb you," I mumbled as I started to walk off.
"No! I mean, you can stay here if you want," the dog said. "Oh, and my name is Dakota."
