JESSICA

I awoke early the next morning to the sight of Matt's face, his eyes shut and his chest going up and down slowly. I sighed and reached out, running my thumb across his cheek. It was true, I loved him, but I could tell he wasn't the person I wanted to be with for my entire life.

The spark I had felt in the beginning had disappeared, and I couldn't help but realize that it was there with other people-two in particular.

But even if I did call it off with Matt, I'd need to choose between two great guys, and that gave me a headache.

I looked over at the clock, which read 8:09. I pulled my body out of bed and sleepily walked to the bathroom. Steam filled the room as the shower's water got hotter and I slipped out of my pajamas and darted into the shower.

I closed my eyes and tried to clear my head of all these confusing thoughts, wishing my life could be easier, but deep down knowing it would never be.

I finished washing my hair and stepped out before wrapping a fluffy white towel around my body and walking to my suitcase I never bothered to unpack.

I fished out a cream colored tank top, a dark blue oversized cardigan and light jeans. I threw on some earrings and put on some light makeup before walking down the large steps towards the kitchen, and more importantly, the coffee maker.

I was watching my nude pumps as I walked down, and was surprised to run into someone. Everyone had stayed up late last night, since it was Christmas, and I wasn't expecting anyone to be up already.

I looked up at the surprised face of Riley, who was now frozen in the middle of collapsing the handle on her luggage. "Going somewhere?" I asked and she flushed.

"Who me?"

I raised my eyebrows and looked around the room. "We're the only people up," I said, chuckling lightly and giving her a hand with her bags.

"I'm leaving," she said, stating the obvious.

"Why?"

"I met someone when I was visiting my dad..."

"What about Justin?"

"I was going to leave this for him," she said, holding up an envelope addressed to Justin. I starred at it and she trusted it towards me.

"Will you give it to him? It has the ring and everything."

I nodded and put it in my back pocket. "Sure..."

She smiled and opened the door, darting out into the cold Stratford air. I watched her throw her bags in the back of her car and run to the driver's seat, quickly shoving the keys into the ignition and speeding off towards the nearest airport.

"Did someone just leave?" I heard a deep voice say from behind me. I spun on the ball of my feet and came face to face with Justin, whose hair was messed up. He wore only sweatpants, wearing no shirt. I starred at his abs for a minute, until he coughed and I looked up at his face. He wore a smirk on his perfect lips.

"Uh..." I cleared my throat, "Yeah. Riley did. She told me to give you this."

He cocked his head and I handed him the letter, watching him as he opened it and scanned through the short paragraph Riley had written.

"She met some guy on her visit with her dad."

I nodded and he sighed, pulling the ring out. "I'm free I guess."

"Congratulations?" I said, more as a question then a statement. He nodded and smiled that perfect, heart warming smile I loved.

"Oh yeah, it's definitely a good thing."

"And now you're free to marry whoever you would like," I smiled as we walked towards the kitchen, side by side.

He nodded and looked over at me. I pretended not to notice. "I guess..." he agreed, before softly adding, "Unless the girl I want to marry is marrying someone else."

He walked past me, leaving me standing in the kitchen's door frame, speechless.

Did he really just say that?

JUSTIN

I walked over to the coffee maker and measured out the correct amount of coffee, pressing the on button when I was done prepping it.

I snuck a glace at Jessica, who stood in the same position, eyes wide. I chuckled and stretched, making her brown eyes become even larger as my muscles flexed. I knew it was driving her crazy, which just made the whole situation even more fun for me.

She finally walked over to the table and collapsed in a wooden chair, staring at the wall.

"So, why are you up this early?" I asked, pulling two mugs down from the cupboard. She shrugged and looked at her hands.

"I don't know. Couldn't sleep."

"Did you have a good Christmas?"

"Yeah, I guess so."

"Nice ring."

She looked down at her finger, which was bare. I found it weird that she wasn't wearing the engagement ring.

"Where is it?"

"I forgot to put it on..."

I raised my eyebrows, but let it slide, seeing as though she was now deep in thought. I turned and leaned against the cold counter, studying her every feature.

Her brown hair was drying slowly from her shower, forming curls. Her brown eyes stared at the wall, no emotion in them. Even in a trance, she was beautiful.

I hated Matt for proposing. I wanted to hate her for saying yes, but it was completely impossible. I just wished I could go back to last night and somehow change her answer to no. Why hadn't I stepped in? Why didn't I say something instead of standing there like a lost puppy, waiting for the answer she wasn't ready to give? I couldn't help but wonder what would've happened. Could I have affected the outcome?

Of course I had to have been an idiot and not said anything.

But, with Riley gone, I could do everything and anything in my power to show her Matt isn't the right choice.

To show her that I am.
