Dinner time came faster than I anticipated. Shawn, Aaliyah and I were all sitting in my room, jamming out. It was A lot of fun. Aaliyah can sing really good as well.
Aunt Maddie called us downstairs when the Mendes's arrived. Everyone greeted each other, and I lead everyone to the dining room. As soon as we sat down, aunt Maddie showed up with two serving plates of food in her hands.
"Do you need help with that? This looks great, by the way." I spoke.
"It's okay. I only have one more, thanks. YouTube helped me out big time." She smiled.
We all laughed, and the chatter continued throughout the dining table. Once we all finished our food, and eating our ice creams for dessert, I called my dad on Skype.
He picked up almost immediately. Then, I placed my phone on one of the shelves In front of the dining table, so everyone was in view.
"Hi Dad!!" I waved in front of the phone.
"Hey big bro!" Aunt Maddie greeted.
"Hi Mr. Campbell!!" Shawn and Aaliyah add.
"Hey everyone! How's it going?"
"We went ice skating earlier, and Hailee fell a lot, so she left the rink earlier than us." Aunt Maddie answers, a smirk plastered on her face.
Laughter fills up the room, causing me to blush furiously.
"Aww Hailee... It's okay," Karen assures me.
"Thanks Karen. At least I know someone actually cares." I joke.
Another round of laughter fills the room.
"Dad, by the way, this is Shawn and Aaliyah' s parents. Karen and Manny." I introduced.
"Hello! Nice to meet you!" He replied.
"Hi! It's great to finally meet you! Your daughter is such a darling. I'm Karen. This is Manny." She said pointing at her husband.
"Oh, are you sure you're talking about my Hailee?" my dad joked, and another fit of laughter followed.
"No. I'm only kidding. That's good to hear. I'm Burt, by the way." My dad finished.
We all talked for about twenty more minutes, and there was some silence. I suddenly remembered where I have to tell mine and Shawn's parents.
My eyes flickered over to Shawn as if to ask permission. He nods, somehow understanding my question.
"Uh. Mr. Campbell, can I ask you a question?" Shawn begins.
"Sure Shawn. What is it? " My dad replies.
"I was wondering if I could take Hailee out on a date?" Shawn asks.
Squeals, gasps, and chuckles filled the room. My dad looked a bit shocked, but he recovered quickly.
"Of course Shawn. I appreciate you asking me first. Just promise me one thing, will ya?" My dad asked.
"Of course."
"Promise me you won't hurt my daughter. " He said.
"I promise. I would never do that." Shawn assures my dad.
"That's good to know, son." My dad finished.
Manny patted Shawn shoulder proudly, and Karen smiled at us.
Aaliyah and Aunt Maddie however, bombarded us with questions. Which we answered most.
"Where are you taking her?"
"Thats a surprise. "
"Will it be a casual date?"
"Yeah. "
"When did he ask you?"
"At the rink when we were sitting down. "
"Can you guys sing for us?"
"Sure, I guess."
And we did sing. We chose 'Hello' by Adele.
The song starts here
"Hello, it's me
I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya
But I ain't done much healing
Hello, can you hear me?
I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be
When we were younger and free
I've forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet
There's such a difference between us
And a million miles
Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore
Hello, how are you?
It's so typical of me to talk about myself. I'm sorry
I hope that you're well
Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happened?
And it's no secret that the both of us
Are running out of time
So hello from the other side (other side)
I must have called a thousand times (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore
Anymore
Hello from the other side (other side)
I must have called a thousand times (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore"
Song ends here
Applauds and cheers came from all around the room, including my dad.
"Wow! What a dynamic duet! You were singing a capella too!! That was amazing!" My dad exclaims.
"Thanks dad. "
"Thank you Mr. Campbell. "
"Please. Call me Burt."
