Chapter 27
~Kiara
My heart is pounding as the swirls of the camps aura's fill my vision. The camp, Greeds camp, is crawling with soldiers both human and beast who would most likely kill us in a blink of an eye. Or less.
I slowly tear my gaze from a particularly large purple aura to watch Mac Tire give Hansel a boost onto the top of the tent we are hiding behind.
"Explain to me how this plan isn't entirely stupid and suicidal?"
Gretel turns to me with a small smile, her face lit up by the yellow aura surrounding her. "Who said we had a plan?"
I throw my hands up. "Well that's comforting!"
Gretel rolls her eyes. "Kiara calm down! We'll be fine. We always are. Besides, Hansel's smart and we have the upper hand. Surprise."
I sigh. "I hope you're right Gretel, 'cause if we get caught..." I let my voice trail.
Mac Tire looks over at me. "If we get caught, then we're dead. So Kiara my advice is, don't get caught."
"Gee, thanks Mac Tire! I would have never guessed. You just made this all so much better."
Gretel clears her throat. "Okay before this turns into a full on war and we are found because of your raising voices. Both of you shut up."
I shrug and glower at the wolf man standing next to me. I wasn't mad at him exactly, but having no plan was just pure idiocy.
Mentally cursing everyone, I turn to keep watch. The blackness of the forest behind us is unnerving so I take a step closer to the tent. A loud crack echoes around us and I wince. Lifting my foot up slowly, I cringe at the sight of the twig residing on the ground.
"God dammit Kiara!" Mac Tire hisses.
"Shhh!" Gretel says, finger to her lips.
She then cocks her head, waiting for any indication of unusual movement in the camp site.
All is still.
I let out a breath before lifting my head and casting my eyes to Mac Tire's.
"Sorry."
He shakes his head before looking up at the roof of the tent Hansel had disappeared over moments before.
I sigh and resume my watch over the quiet forest. However instead of stillness like before, my eyes land on a large, bulking shape making it's way towards us. Even worse? It had no aura.
"Uh guys?"
Mac Tire lets out a low growl. "Kiara enough."
"But there's an aura-less thing coming for us. 3 o'clock."
My companions heads snap around so quickly it almost makes me want to laugh.
"Oh crap. We gotta go!"
I frown. "What about Hansel? We can't just leave him here! He'll be caught!"
Mac Tire growls again. "Yes, but if we get caught as well, then we won't be able to save him!"
"He'll be killed!"
Gretel grabs my arm and tugs me towards the forest behind her. "Kiara, I know! I don't want to leave him either but we have no choice! If we leave now, we have a better chance of saving Hansel than we do if we a caught as well!"
I sigh and cast one last look up at the tent before letting Gretel rush me into the tree line away from the monster.
