Chapter 12: Forgetful

I didn't need to worry about passing him on my way out. He was off doing what he does.

The warm May sun hit me like a wave as I walked into the small, half dead garden. As I laid down on the bench, I looked up in the direction of my room. What I found there made me smack my palm against my forehead.

What was I doing down here when I could be up on my balcony? I had my very own, much prettier garden up there where the smells from the Bog of Eternal Stench couldn't reach me.

As I stalked back up to my room, I realized that Elyse had been completely alone for the past two days.

How could I be so irresponsible?!  That's when I knocked on her door.

No response.

As I turned the knob, my heart jumped into my throat. What if... But no; I mustn't think that.

Sure enough, the room was empty.

I was such a horrible sister. Fighting the rising lump in my throat, I ran for the Goblin City.

The city was deathlly silent. You could hear the wings of the faeries humming softly in the distance. A small cloud of dust blew across the path, but that was the only movement for miles. My panic rose as I turned slowly in a circle. Nowhere in sight. That's when I realized that I'd have to go door to door, facing all the goblins, all of which gave me the heebie jeebies.

But what choice did I have?
