is as far as the eye can see from a rolled down window inside a speeding subaru forester going 55 in a 35.

for all my mom cares, there wasn't a single squad car in sight we drove by for the past 65 miles.

which was all she cared about other than her 17 year-old daughter and 6 year-old son going off to a summer camp that only one of the two were ecstatic about. hint: its the one who still believes that power rangers and teenage mutant ninja turtles still roam somewhere on earth.

"maia we're almost here, do you have everything?" my mom detaches me away from my solemn thoughts and pulls into the camp's entrance. "as far as i can recall yea. and don't worry i already double checked that both of troye's backpacks had clean clothes, washroom items, and his actions figures were all neatly assembled as requested by the boss himself." i answered and ruffled my younger brother's curly hair from the passenger seat. he giggled and kicked his legs with an embarrassed smile that i threw right back at him.

"alright my loves, are sure you two have everything? you know i can always just drive us back to the house real quick to grab anything..." my mother rambles on the verge of anxious tears. "don't worry mommy! we have all of sissy's bags and mines too, right maiwa?" troys cooes and gleams back at me with his bright blue eyes, full of contained excitement ready to burst out any minute. i just nod in agreement as my mother parks the car and turns back around to face troye.

"ugh, when did my little troye become so grown up?" she jokes with a sigh and a admiring smile, brushing her thumb against his small blushing cheek. "did you hear that maiwa?! mommy said i'm a big boy!!" troye gasped and wiggled in his booster seat as i hopped out the car over to unbuckle him from the backseat. i just laughed and shook my head, untangling him from the twisted seatbelt and scooped him up in my arms, closing the door behind me. i carefully put him back on the ground and told him to go say goodbye to mom while i grabbed our bags from the trunk to which he nodded up and down happily and skipped over to my her with open arms when she crouched down to his level.

my tongue slipped between the corner of my pursed lips as i struggled to balance all the baggage in my grasp. looking around, i came across a perfect-sized cart that could fit all the luggage from the car. i huffed, letting them slip out of my hands one by one on the cart and jogged around the corner of the car to give my mom one last hug before i left with troye. she pulled me close as i wrapped my arms around her neck and laid my head over her shoulder, squeezing my eyes shut to avoid any tears to spill. troye looks up and grins at the sight, and decides to hug our knees as an attempt to join the group hug. "i'm going to miss you mom." i whisper, my voice cracking slightly. "i'll miss you more. promise, to keep a close eye on your brother for me. i'm only a phone call away, okay? i love you so much maia." she cries slightly, pulling away from me to wipe away her fallen tears. "i promise. i love you too mom." i smile truthfully and press a quick kiss to her forehead before picking up troye. "say bye bye to mommy." i say to troye and turn my back to her so he could see her face. "bye mommy! i wuv you!!" troye calls out, blowing her a dozens of kisses and waved with his adorable dimples plastering his looks. she smiles and waves goodbye once more before getting back in the car and pulled out campgrounds, leaving me and my younger brother by ourselves for the next two months at ridgewood summer camp

with a steady hand, i manage to push our stable cart and carry an overwhelmingly ecstatic troye in the other with his pudgy pair hands intertwined on the back of my neck tightly. i search around yet again before finally finding a camp counselor who could sign in campers to their designated cabins. "oh hi there! i'm counselor taryn! if this is your first time here then, welcome to camp ridgewood! what may i help you with?" the sign-in woman, taryn, exclaims and pulls out a clipboard. "um hi, i was wondering if you could sign me and brother in today?" i asked politely, giving my arms a rest by putting troye back down and held onto his hand. "yes! of course. what's the last name?" she replied and flipped through her stack of organized papers on the board. "matthews." i answered. "ah, maia and troye correct?" she glances back up. i just nod and give a short smile as she smiles back and hands me the keys to our cabins, explaining where we each were staying and other helpful directions. "and mess hall opens up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 8am all the way to 8pm. you and your brother enjoy your summer, alright.?" taryn encourages and waves goodbye as i wave back and gather the cart that held me and troye's-

oh my god,

troye.

"nonnonononono." i mumble, my eyes widening as i spin around in a full circle analyzing the waves of campers to see if i could distinguish the curly-headed child, realizing he's absolutely nowhere to be found. "this can't be happening." i breathe feverishly, running a hand through my slightly disheveled hair.

"TROYE," i shout, my hands cupping over my mouth to somewhat amplify my calls.

i try several more times before wandering about with quick steps, dragging the cart along with me on the hunt of my missing sibling. i can't wrap my mind around the possible fact..

have i lost my brother forever?
