Title: Take A Splash
Warnings: Swearing
Prompt: You were aboard the Jackdaw when another ship decides to crash the party.
Spoilers: None
============================
"I thought I heard the old man say..." Jack started to sing up a shanty as you looked out to the open ocean. Soon the entire ship joined in the singing, as well as Captain Edward Kenway and his quartermaster, Adéwale. You even subsided to some humming of the song, "Oh Johnny, Leave Her". You turned around from looking at the healthy blue sea so your back was against the side of the ship and crossed one leg over the other, resting your elbows either side of you. With a look to the helm, your cheeks reddened as you spotted Edward snap his head away from you.
"Be careful captain. These are guarded waters." You heard Adéwale warn Edward. "Calm down Adé. We'll be fine." Edward waved Adé's cautions off and kept on steering the ship. Winds started to pick up as the sky grew darker and thunder clapped. Your looked up as a raindrop fell onto your (S/T) skin, and you laughed to yourself.
"Enemy ship to starboard captain!" A member of the crew notified the ship, and you turned around, for you were on the starboard side of the ship, and your knees locked in surprise as a brig or a schooner– You couldn't tell which– came speeding towards the Jackdaw. Let's just be thankful that it wasn't a 'man o' war'.
Everyone knows that it's hard to battle a ship in a storm, with the wind steering you in the opposite direction, or rogue waves washing the deck and sweeping people of of their feet.
"Shit!" You exclaimed as supposed thunder rumbled, and you started to run up to the swivel cannons beside Edward when a huge bang erupted and wood was sent flying everywhere as well as the crew, you included.
The wet deck made it harder to keep your ground as you were sent into something hard on the other side of the deck, and that something crashed into your back, winding you. You took slow breaths to get oxygen back into your lungs and began to get up when another bang shook the ship, causing you to shield your face as more pieces of wood flew across the deck.
Breaking out into a sprint, you took a swivel cannon and spared a glance at the damage. Wood was everywhere, and the crew were working extremely hard to ward off this stranger.
"Fire!" Edward cried out, and lightning flashed and the ship rumbled as the cannon shots caused maximum damage. You took an aim and fired at a vulnerable point in the hull of their ship, and turned to Edward.
"Where are we?!" You yelled over the noise. Edward flashed a quick glance to you before replying.
"Charlotte! It's in the south! This ship is enormous for an ordinary schooner. It must have been packed with weapons and armour and such!" He replied, shielding his eyes from the harshness of the rain.
"FIRE!" Bang!
"FIRE!" Bang!
It carried on in this exact same pattern before one particular shot from the opposing ship.
"(Y/N), under no circumstances are you leaving this ship! It's too dangerous in this storm and these men are proper swordsmen. They could take you out easily!" Edward had roared over the storm, thinking that they could be able to board the ship soon.
"I can handle myself thank you very much!" You retorted, looking over to him and crossing your arms.
"I just don't want you to– LOOK OUT!" He let one hand leave the helm and took a stance as a particularly loud bang ruptured through the very floor you were standing on, causing a surprised cry to leave your lips and your feet to involuntarily leave the Jackdaw and soar through the air into the sea. Attempting to grab a rope was no use, since they all slithered out of your grip like a slimy snake.
If only... You wondered, but never got to finish the thought as you were engulfed by a rogue wave, knocking you out.

Edward saw everything. He saw the cannon shot, the damage it inflicted, and how it sent (Y/N) flying into the sea.
"Adé! Take the helm! You're in charge! Board the ship NOW and wait for me to show up after you take control!" Edward blurted every single word out as fast as he could, and Adé only just caught on.
"Be careful Kenway!" He called, before he shouted orders for his temporary crew to follow.
Panic caused Edward to tremble as he flicked his already soaked hood over his wet hair to keep it out of the way while running to the side of the ship. He had no time for the rope that was ready for him and instead he leapt off the side of the ship, diving into the cold ocean.
It was so peaceful down here. No rain, no cannons. Just sound of water rippling through coral and the sound of the tails of fish. Focus Kenway! Edward told himself, eyes searching for (H/C) locks, anything that looked like you. Then, he saw. The familiar body that haunted his dreams. He swam quickly over, gently wrapping a protective arm around her waist and began swimming up to the surface.
The storm had stopped but the clouds haven't cleared. Silence crept through the sky until Edward broke the water with
(Y/N)'s head resting on his shoulder as one arm supported her back, as if he was carrying a baby. Slowly he swam over to the other ship, as that was where he told Adé to meet him.
"Adé!" He exclaimed, hoping that somebody heard him. Footsteps echoed louder and louder until Adé poked his head over the ship.
"Captain overboard!" Was all he had to say to earn helping hands to get (Y/N) from Edward's grasp and onto the deck safely. He expertly scaled the side of the ship in no time, not bearing to spend any time apart from her. When (Y/N) was back in Edward's grip once again, he checked her pulse, sighing in relief when he felt it beat faintly. Edward started to walk when he properly scanned the deck of the ship, chuckling to himself.
"What's happened here Adé? I told you to take control of the ship, not repaint it!" And with that he travelled back to the Jackdaw.

Your eyes fluttered open and you coughed up some remaining seawater in your lungs, a pungent taste and smell remaining.
"What did we get?" You heard a familiar Welsh voice asked.
"Some sugar, cloth and metal." Another Jamaican voice answered. The doorknob rattled and you stared up at the ceiling, eyelids droopy.
"I'll check on (Y/N). Set a course for Nassau." Edward spoke, and the door opened with a squeak, causing you to shut your eyelids with a cringe as your head pounded. You heard a chair move and someone sit down in it. A warmth covered your hand and you fought your eyelids open once again. You blinked furiously as the light made your head pound even worse than the first time.
"It's good to have you back (Y/N)." Edward's relieved voice filled your ears. You opened your mouth to speak but ended up coughing violently, jerking up which made your head pound more.
"Hey, take it easy lass." Edward leant forward and ever so slightly stood up from his chair to lightly pat your back and caress your shoulder. He reached out behind him and retrieved a glass of water, which you keenly drank down.
"Now I can speak." You said softly. Edward only smiled. "So what happened?"
Edward dragged his chair forward and explained how you took a trip into the sea and how he saved you, though he was being really humble about it and tried not to boast or say something that you would think meant "Oh hey I just saved you so I can boast about it". That wasn't what he wanted to get across at all.
After everything was explained, you slowly lied down again, eyelids suddenly getting heavy.
"Thank you." You murmured with a ghost smile on your lips.
"Anytime, lass." Edward responded softly and pressed a light kiss to your forehead before leaving you in peace.
