"So who goes first? I asked.
"Ladies first." He said.
"Are you really gonna use that card on me?" I said.
Thomas just laughed in a very stiffled manner.
" How about we just swim for awhile and think about what we are going to say." He suggested.
" I guess so." I answered.
The sound of the waterfall was indeed calming, but the fast paced beat of my heart never stopped. I don't want to tell everything right away but something tells me that this could be the time. But looking back through all the years that we've been part of each others life there were a lot of instances where I could've told him. I was just always scared of what might happen. Of what will happen to the years we spent helping each other pick up the broken pieces of ourselves. for all the times that we were there for each other. for all the times I had a shoulder to cry on. but I think that most of us mistaken attention for love.Looking out in the falls I saw him, in deep thought. Was he thinking about the same thing too? Was he having a hard time deciding on what to say? What I don't get is how can it be so hard for someone like him, He wasn't much of an overthinker like me. He'd often say the first thing that comes into his mind and don't even think about the possible effect of what he uttered. Is the curse even real? I mean why would someone get stuck in a place by being dishonest? I started to wonder if he was just just playing jokes on me. But when Chet passed by and told us about the spell I did have a second thought on actually believing the said curse but then again I barely know him 'Chet actually saved you from being left alone in the middle of nowhere' said the neurotic voice in my head. Well I wasn't technically alone; I was with Thomas. But I do get the point in trusting Chet. But then again how could you trust someone without actually knowing them; beyond the name and the way of living.
"Hey." he called out.
I didn't notice that he was there already. I was too deep in thought to focus on my surroundings.
"Is the curse true?" I asked.
"Wanna test faith?" he asked with his eyebrows raised.
"Why do you do that?" I said.
"Do what?" he asked while holding his hand out on his sides.
"Never mind" I said.
"Cascada de la verdad, that is what this place is called. It literally means 'Waterfall of truth'. I know you're wondering why; so the tale of this place started when this Spaniard was on this very same place we are now. During that time he was very problematic on his life. Everything was going wrong. So he started to shout all the hatred, all the things that he never thought that he could admit to himself. So from then he started to feel better about his life. The long that he stayed here the more secrets he revealed. He stayed here until he could no longer walk or even stand up. In other words he died here. And ever since this place was called Cascada de la verdad everyone who visits this place needs to tell a secret in order for the spirit of the Spaniard to guide them back safety. You might ask what might happen if we don't do it? The world won't be able to see us anymore and I'm not joking some people who actually didn't follow never made it out alive." He narrated.
"I haven't had a boyfriend since highschool" I said.
"That's a lie." He stated.
"All I said was the truth." I said.
"No seriously. Haven't guys taken a good look on you?" He said whilst gesturing his hands on my face.
"Its not that there aren't any guys. I just don't seem to like any of them." I said.
"You and your standards" He said whilst laughing.
I just smiled at Him and asked what was his secret.
"Before we go into mine can I just ask why? he said with a bit of hesitation in his voice.
"Nobody compared to him." I said.
"He's such a lucky guy." he said.
"Don't change the topic ,What's yours?" I asked while playfully pushing his shoulders.
"Well,There's this girl, I've known her for a very long time. I love her and I'll always will." You said.
"She's a lucky girl." I said.
"She is and she doesn't even know" Thomas said while throwing rocks at the falls.
" why can't you just tell her?," I said
" Its not that easy" He said.
I didn't even answer. I just didn't have the right words.
"Wanna get out of here?" I said.
"Let's go" He said while standing up and offering me a hand which I gladly took.
"How do we know if the curse didn't work on us?" I said.
"If we don't get lost." He said.
"But I thought we came here to get lost?" I said in a matter of factly way.
"I said that?" he said while looking at me.
"Yeah" I said while laughing.
"Let's get lost then." he said before we made our way back.
