Baba Yaga dwells in her own realm, a place most other Fae can't interfere with, let alone enter. A Water Nymph was able to transport Geraldine to Baba Yaga's realm. She is referred to as a witch.

Zoie had invoked her saying:

"Mother of Light, Baba Yaga, Baba Yaga, Imp's Grandmother, Devil's Great Grandmother. Come out from the glass through your shadow. Come out through your doppelganger. Let Dyson see. Because he thinks he's it, but he's just shit. Make him know what it's like to feel rejected. To be hated. This is my vengeance plea. Hear me Baba Yaga!"

Then she marked Geraldine as her own. Baba Yaga only grants pleas when there's an intense emotional connection between the wounded party and her target.

Baba Yaga in folklore

Every young Russian girl is taught about Baba Yaga or Baba Roga, also known by various other names. She is a haggish or witchlike character in Slavic folklore, the old witch who lives deep in the woods, in a cottage made of bones of young girls who don't do what they're told. It's said she stalks the underworld, making sure the souls of the dead are not reborn. She's a hideous witch who helps young Slavic women take revenge on the men who've wronged them and she feasts on girls who don't behave. To exact revenge on a man you get a mirror, say her name three times and tell her the name of the man you want cursed. She flies around on a giant pestle, kidnaps (and presumably eats) small children, and lives in a hut that stands on chicken legs. In most Slavic folk tales, she is portrayed as an antagonist; however, some characters in other mythological folk stories have been known to seek her out for her wisdom, and she has been known on rare occasions to offer guidance to lost souls. According to Propp, she often fulfills the function of donor; that is, her role is in supplying the hero (sometimes unwillingly) with something necessary for the further quest.
