Alphabet Soup

Often wondered about language

How it was perceived

Were the words we used correct

Was their conveyance well achieved

Were they employed just for effect

Was there a pretentiousness apparent

Did they convey exact intent

Or maybe it was merely used as advertent

Could we have erred through affectation

Perhaps like the Q in billiards, just quiet-

Did these quirks sneak through unnoticed

Deceptive in their role as argot

How are we supposed to know

What of the Y in asking

Is it just a straight disguise

Or a clever means of masking

Did you note the L in architecture

More subtle I am sure

Or silent, as the P in swimming

Less easy to ignore

Then the T in golf

Or possibly the U in sheep

Another would be the X in divorce

All compounding to posit my original bleep

And I am left with the dilemma of the Alphabet in soup!
